Anyone have a currently-manufactured Fein angle grinder (made in the last ~2 years)? If so, does it work well? I recently bought one - a 6", 13 amp model and am a little disappointed in it.

Compared to my other grinders (Metabo and Hitachi), it vibrates more than the others and the gear box starts getting hot almost immediately. It's also louder than the rest and sounds like it has a bit of a rattle.

If this is typical of them, I can live with it. If it's not, I'll return it.

Thanks for any input.

Those gearboxes get hot when there's too much grease inside. The grease blocks the airflow from the fan. I took all the grease out of my Bosch and now it runs super cool. The vibration could be from the disc. Try running it without the disc.

Fein are considered one of the best, they do all their manufacturing in-house and oversee every step.

May try what Wamsutta said. But also consider it may be a defective unit? My 4-5yr Feins run smooth and relatively quiet. Mine does have a little rattle like sound too...

Nope on the disc, nor the grease. No disc and the grease looks perfect. As it turns out, the grinder has smoothed out a bit. I don't know if it needed for the gears to "seat" or mesh, but it has significantly smoothed. The rattle has become less pronounced as well. Perhaps it was from the gears needing to mesh better as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have the WSG 15-150 and it is hands down the best grinder I own... Yours may be defective
