I picked up a few old Curtiss Wright sockets and extensions in a lot of old tools, and originally thought they were some older version of Wright tools.
I’m finding out that that isn’t true. Does anyone know the story of Curtiss-Wright?

They were made by Wright, as I posted the other day. Not sure know what happened to the thread. Contract tools I'd assume. The ratchets, also identical to Wright.

I'm not sure if there were any other makers.

So you're sayin.....What are you sayin?...

...So Curtiss Wright The huge Aerospace company, formally Wright aeronautical and Curtiss Aeroplane at some point contracted the privately owned Wright Tool & Forge Co. of Barberton Ohio to make some hand tools for them which would be marked "Curtiss-Wright"? Not to be confused with the WW2 (and earlier) era contract Curtiss Wright / Wright Aeronautical tools supplied by Bonney, Plomb and others that are marked "Wright" but were NOT made by Wright tool & forge OR the WF marked "Wright Field" WW2 era contact tools also not made by Wright tool & forge. :willy_nil

Interesting stuff. I had originally reached out to Wright tools (via their Instagram page) and they told me they had no affiliation with Curtiss Wright. Perhaps the person who manages the IG page is just uninformed

I came across the same metal box and ONE socket at the flea market at last week's Jacktown (jacktown.org) Engine show near Bangor, Pa. Unfortunately there were no more Curtis-Wright items at that vendor's tables. I may work towards filling a set, but it will take a while. Keep me in mind if you have an extra or two...

I have two Swench impact wrenches made by CW.

Marvellous tools, 500 ft.lbs effortlessly available on the small 1/2” drive unit, batteries not required, compressed air not needed, will work anywhere, even underwater.

I have 4 1/4” deep Curtiss-Wright sockets that I have no use for. 1/4, 5/16, 11/32, 7/16. I’m located in NE Ohio
