Here is the story for the build.....my mother is a HUGE and by HUGE i mean she loves Dr.Seuss, has everything she can find for sale, decorates her nursery room (for her 6 grandsons, 2 of which are mine) and just enjoys the like.

My mothers birthday was coming up and I hadn't thought of anything to do or get her, so my wife was scrolling through a site she frequents called Pintrest, which has a ton of really cool ideas for home furniture and furnishings, along with other stuff, and came across a shelf someone had built is a Dr. Seuss theme. I liked the idea but saw how it was built and didnt care for the build, so i took matters into my own hands, reshaped the shelf and used materials i thought would work a little better for me.

This is what i came up with, now remember, i am not a woodworker by trade, i dfo this for fun and this is the biggest "custom" woodworking project i have ever tried to tackle.

pretty straight forward but if there is something specific you would like to know, just ask...........

pics are pretty big...sorry

back piece cut and sides stapled

Never would of thunk this one. Very creative. You will need some sticky stuff to keep the items from sliding.

A curve is a straight line - All bent out of shape

We think you’re creative
We really do

Books lean to the right
And to the left too

I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew is one of my favorites and has a very good message for adults as well as children. I gave a copy to my wife about 20 years ago and she still keeps it in her office.

Nice work!!!! About a year ago a fellow in the Minneapolis area made a Grandfather clock like that and was trying to sell it on CL. Have not seen it for a while, but it was cool..

The case is red, the shelves are white
The result is such a pretty sight

It'll sure hold Seuss books galore
Now clean that mess up off the floor.

thanks for all of your great comments....it was a lot of work and learning, but i think it came out great, the painging mess is from my 3 year old son who wanted to help grandmas shelf too, hes my huge helper and love to be in the garage with me and help dad with all his tools. hes the best, ill try and get a pic of him next to it when its finished. he had such a blast painting he even got to pick out his own brush and roller from my supply.

I think that is just great. Hopefully you didn't work too late. It looks well built with a good bit of weight. To build this was your fate. We want final pics at a later date.

I'm a Dr. Suess fan too. I tell people who like rap that he was the original rap artist. He could make anything rhyme!

Great job! Love it. Anything related to Dr Seuss is cool in my eyes.

no drop cloth needed, i have an epoxy coated garage floor, it just gets hosed off, some of the finish on the floor is gone from cleaners and chemicals, and there is overspray everywhere on the floor from loads of painting jobs i have done in there, its just a garage to me, i use it and abuse the hell out of it

Love it!

The local Disney store had stuff like that going on. I always liked it and wished I had a reason to build something like it.

How are you gonna wrap that thing?!

You might want to check your straight edge. It looks a little crooked to me.

Beautiful job and very creative.

As a grand father - I'll have to retract. Leave the mess, it'll be a sweet reminder of good times. Like reading the books.

That is awesome....but you do realize now you need tp do a Seuss changing table and shelf right?

I'd make as much in that room the same style just for the fun of it.

Wish I had thought of that when my kids were that age. All of my girls were Seuss fanatics when they were babies.

My daughter really would like to have this bookcase in her baby's room. (my first grandchild) Is there anyway I can get the dimensions for the build?

For the shelf you can keep with the wavy pattern and it would work out since she is storing the stuffed animals on it. The changing table you can make the sides wavy... but I'm pretty sure you would want the top to be level ;)

Well Done!
