We have a two story garage. We wanted to put in an automatic door so we bought a custom door that goes with the style of the garage. Door opening is 8' x 7'. We don't have enough clearance; the ceiling height is 7' 5". The store where we bought it and our contractor never said anything about the clearance needed when the door was ordered. Is there any way to make this fit? HELP!!!!! Thanks & God bless! Heavypaws

Sounds like an 8' wide 7' high door.

Any pics of the door so we can better relate to the issue

You need a "low headroom track kit". But with only 5 inches of clearance i'm not sure that will work. Good luck!

I had to do that on my first garage that I built. It makes a double track and drops the top panel down faster than the standard track. But with that you have to remember that the height will alsoo be shorter if you have a truck that is raised slightly.

You may not have room for a torsion spring above your door, as shown in the above it needs > 7" and sound like you have only 5". If not you may need to do the older style extension springs.

Here are some photos of the garage door opening. We ordered two custom doors, one for the front and one for the new addition in the back. If we can't make this work on the front door, we will use it in the back. However, we will still have to buy the second door because it was a custom job. I have been praying all day that somehow we can make this door work in the front. Thanks everyone for your help! God bless! Heavypaws

Edit: it will go in unless it is a Wayne Dalton door. Most other brands could be made to fit.

Nice talking to you today, sorry I could not come up with a solution.

WD used to sell 0 clearance track..Not my favorite, But I have seen them work. I personally would not use extension springs on any lowheadroom application!! Or on any door for that matter..Just say'n..

You can definitely get a low headroom track kit to make things work even with 5" to spare. I have the same sized door and less than 3" above the opening. The installer had to trim some of the track just slightly to make it work. As you can see in the pic, the tracks actually slope down in to the garage from the opening. I believe the trimming involved was to get the door top closing tight with having the tracks angled like this.
