How many of you guys here make your own custom length saw blades? My horizontal bandsaw uses 72 1/2 inch blades and nobody locally carries metal cutting blades for these. I was considering tig brazing or silver soldering them. Any experience with this, helpful tips or things to watch out for would be awesome.

I just order them. Way cheaper and I don't have to keep coil stock on hand. Order them in the morning and they are on the doorstep 3 days later. I can go get them made locally, and get them one day quicker, but add in the fuel and time cost to go pick them up.....

I have a blade welder. It has a trick to using it and I have not gotten the touch yet.
Mine tend to break sooner than they should but it’s easy to weld them back together.
I would offer that if you buy the blade stock and cut them to length that I would weld them for you but I don’t want to disappoint you in their durability.
I have tried the TIG approach and just can’t seem to be it without damaging the teeth.
Silver solder has promise though

I use these guys as well for my custom blades. I haven't tried the other guys. But when I called Swift the guy was super polite and helpful, the prices were good. And the blades have proved to be excellent.
I have a Leten 14" metal saw, capable of doing 1 inch plate, and the blades are very good
If you are welding blades with the welder on the saw the trick is to open the jaws and reclamp, then reheat to red and then tap the switch to make the cool down slow to anneal the weld area. Otherwise the weld area is hard and brittle

We have a saw shop that makes them custom size. $20 for a 62". Shop has spools of various tooth. Only takes him a couple minutes to make blade and its quality steel.
