Here are a few pics of a custom 4 post lift that we designed and built for a customer. The lift or hoist as us Aussie's call them, is installed into classic car workshop/museum/mancave and is designed to be used as a standard 4 post hoist or using a separate hydraulic system allows the whole hoist to be lifted up another 900mm (3 feet) to be able to run cars along a mezzanine floor suspended from the ceiling for display purposes.
This building was originally a mechanics workshop and is in a more well to do suburb of Melbourne. Once bought it was gutted and new roof installed to carry the mezzanine floor. The mezzanine is approx. 2700mm from ground level and our standard 4 post hoist lift 1800mm. The solution? add a another set of hydraulic rams to lift the hoist.
These are synchronized together using chains and sprockets plus rack gears to allow all four corner to lift evenly.
Connected to a separate hydraulic system this allows for the hoist to be used as a standard 4 post hoist. I don't think there will be to much maintenance going on here. Just look at the carpeted floor. More likely for cleaning of million dollar vehicles.
Anyway, still a few little things to be done on the hoist but a majority of the fab work is done.
