I went to a garage sale today run by a guy who worked at the Stanley Tool plant here in Wichita Falls (TX) before it closed down. I picked up a ratchet (for $1) that was the size of a standard Proto 1/4 drive ratchet, but that had a 3/8 drive.

I asked the man if this was a regular production ratchet that I wasn't aware of and he said he'd custom made it at the plant during his spare time. I don't know if I'll ever use it, but it was too interesting to pass up.

That was a sweet deal on that ratchet.

There's an entire thread dedicated to the 3/8" in a 1/4" body ratchet somewhere on this forum, if I can just find the link.

I have a Bonney, Blackhawk, (and working on an S-K) 3/8" gear in a 1/4" body. Never seen a Proto.

I apologize for not researching this more thoroughly, it is a 5248S. Not being familiar with the ratchet, I assumed the guy was telling me the truth. I'm still glad I snagged it though.

Who knows?
No worries man. I learn new stuff from this site all the time. If I had run up on that ratchet a few years ago I would have been as surprised as you were.

At least now you know you can get a rebuild for it if need be. For a buck I think you did great!

I bought on from my tool vendor back in the 1980s. That was a catalog item. It's a great ratchet!

That's the 1/4 with a torque wrench 3/8 repair kit. Not 100% but I believe the number is J6064RK . Customer service at Proto will tell you.
