I'd be afraid of the kid falling out of the first one pictured.

Put a bicycle helmet, skateboard knee pads and elbow pads, soccer shin guards, bubble wrap what's left (or a full, final layer, cocoon-like), then a 5pt safety harness to strap him in, and he'll be fine.

I have built a couple so far. I would not go that tall with one personally but it is up to the builder. Any questions lay them on me. Have a ton of pictures that helped me when I researched building one for my son.

The timing of this thread is hilarious. I've had this in the works since my sons first birthday last week.

...blackwalls from HF, sanded em smooth with a da and sprayed 4 coats of krylon fusion. They kind of yellowed from the mold release leaching through, but i think it mkes look kind of vintage.

Thanks!

Just a few questions on the suspension where did you get the shocks and are those heim joint in the middle on the arms ? also what size of axle/hub assembley did you use ? also how did you set up the steering ? some pics would be nice if possible. thanks

The shocks on the big wagon I made custom from porch swing springs (would not recommend due to time it takes) I would recommend getting shocks/springs for a bike. You can buy them new on ebay or at any bike shop and fab mounting tabs for them. They are also adjustable which is convenient.

I tried to use a lot of stuff I already had on hand to keep the cost down.

The pivot joints are made from heavy eye bolts with a poly bushing inside for the bolt to pass through. Heim joints would have worked but my choices were limited at the time I built it.

The axle is 3/4 solid round stock, wheels are new take offs from a mower shop with inner and outer sealed bearings.

The steering set-up is based off the pictures below. Instead of making a spindle with a threaded nut I used steel water pipe T's and welded the axle stub into it. Go to Tractor supply or mower parts place and get mower tie-rod ends to use for your steering set-up. They make it adjustable and are not that expensive.

Hope this helps.

Best one I ever saw was one a guy used to get around the pits at Speed Week at Bonneville. It had a Honda 350 four cylinder engine for power. Sorry, I don't have a picture.

pst496,

That is sick! That front end is in the weeds (or grass in this picture). Don't have to worry about this RF tipping over.

Here's a before and after of the wagon I built for my son Riley. I gave it to him on his first birthday and he has been using it and abusing it like no other!

Note the beefy axles...

Hey Guys, I dont post here often but I just finished one as a gift for my buddy's babyshower.

Here's my Radio lowflyer:
Its built on 1x1 1/8th" Square Tube aluminum. Machined everything but the nuts and bolts and TIG'd it all together.

Under side: (All welds on top were machined smooth for the pan to sit flush)
