Keeping with my motto that there are no simple projects . . . I've embarked on a new project - Making a 48vdc yard cart for Mrs. Imagineer to use in toting garden tools, dirt and water about our yard.

The cart will use a transaxle from a Craftsman (MTD) lawn tractor. The used axle came with massive tires on 8" rims. My project will use 13" tall tires on 6" rims. The problem is the tractor axle has flatted ends that engage the rims. I had to cut out the hubs from the original rims and weld them into the hubs of the new 6" rims.

Another problem, the original hubs are 1" OD and the new rim hubs are 1.375" ID.

I used some steel bar stock to machine spacers to fit the small hub sections into the new rim hubs. Another thing that needed addressed is the new rim hubs are about 1/2" longer than the cut out hubs, so I needed to machine some off the inside edge of the hub.

I welded the spacer to the original hubs, then welded them into the new rims. Next to to re-powder coat the new rims.
