custom ring spanner

I need to see if I can get a custom tool made up and have some questions about modding an existing tool

basically I need to turn a flank ratchet ring spanner into an offset and then to cut off or bend the rest of it so that it becomes a half moon

I bought a gearwrench 14mm rachet half moon the other day, but there's not enough meat in the middle to bend and modify, so I'm looking at trying to modify a 14mm ratchet flank ring spanner - all the offset ratchet ring spanners I've seen so far have been those rubbishy double plate skinned chinese clones, and the heads are too thick to fit into the work area I'm having probs accessing (extractor bolts at no: 6 cylinder for an inline 6 on a 4wd)

most of the ones I've seen that are cheap enough to modify use chrome vanadium, so is there anything difficult in welding to CV?

or does anyone know of a tool that I can use (flex head stubbys are no good as there is only 2" of space and it butts against the firewall)

You shouldn't have any problems welding chrome vanadium. Do you need to perform this task often? Is there a commercially available specialty tool available for this task?

From your description I am envisioning one of those “C” shaped Chevy small block distributor wrenches.

pretty close conceptually, I've got one for a merc which is a factory tool, but its only 12mm

visualise a stubby offset ratchet wrench with a c shaped handle

the exhaust manifold bolts are 14mm

nah, its a 3 monthly vehicle maint tool - or unless I want to take the extractors off etc....

if there is a tool commercially available I'd seriously look at getting it as these odd job tools always come in handy in the strangest of mechanical nightmares

shallow uni socket what car/engine combernation is it in ?

it's a TB42 in a GQ patrol (have a Mav as well, so for both vehicles)

if push comes to shove I can use a 300mm ratchet box wrench from underneath

i'll have to have another look at mine i dont rember it being to difficult.

just might be my extractors... but no 6: lower bolt is a PITA if you try and tighten from the top
