So no one that I have found makes an 8 point 1/2in drive 1-1/4 deep impact socket. So I decided to make my own!

No I didn’t this is kind of a first run “see how it holds up” kind of thing. I’ll be testing it out at work with my impact on ASCE rail splice bolts, that use square nuts. Hopefully it holds up! If it does I’ll be making a few more for my co-workers

Curious why you are using an 8pt design, rather than 4pt. Would think the extra "meat" would only help on an impact. And impacts aren't (in my mind) a tool for tight spaces, as much.

I use the 8 point socket mainly because it’s easier for the socket to find home on the nut. Rather than fiddling with it, clocking the socket and getting it to seat correctly. Which is crucial when working at heights, often 100+ feet in the air. And actually even with an 8 point there is quite a bit of “meat” contacting the nut. I have yet to have one round off. As for the impact goes usually not too concerned with tight spaces the only time this socket gets used is on larger overhead crane systems to thighten the splice bolts on the ASCE Rail (train track) that the crane rides on.
