I know that there is a ton of Experience and Talent out there. I am in the middle of Designing and Building my own HD Custom Cart. I'll be using it to roll out on the driveway to work on Family Cars and on the other side of the Garage. Looking for some extra Ideas...
I have a large steel storage box that I am Converting, I have lots of steel tubing and casters.
Here is what I want to add...
A set of outlets...a light...a couple of drawers...a bottom shelf...a pop-up side shelf...ext cord storage...socket storage...wrench storage...maybe under the lid peg board...spray can storage.
Any other ideas that you have or wish that you may have had?
Pics would be great!
Thanks...

- Locking casters
- Spool-up reel for the extension cord
- I use my handlebar to hold some home-made hooks to for additional storage.
- I have an articulated lamp from a drafting table attached to my cart. This way I can put light on the subject as needed.

If you are going to take it outside use good sized casters so it will roll easier.
Avoid the temptarion to make it too big an heavy.
Think about how often you will use what you are putting in or on it.
Sometimes it makes sense to walk back into the shop instead of lugging everything you own around with you.

I started a thead with a pic of mine. It isn't really heavy duty. But I use all the time. It was a cart for a portable dance floor. The top was completely open. So I cut the handle off so the stainless top would fit. The only thing I need to change is to put casters on with brakes.

OK, I started with a Metal Storage box that I had laying around for years and years. It's pretty thick metal, (29 1/4" W X14 1/4" D X 15" H)
I've added some tubular metal legs, some locking casters
And I figured that at least 3 drawers would be great. Instead of making some, I bought a 80 year Annv. Craftsman box that was on sale for 1/2 off ($30) and cut it down. I cut a hole in the front of the Storage box, and it will be welded inside of it...works perfectly! Still room inside for some deep storage
I'll add a top plate with some storage for sockets and ratchets and a bottom shelf.
Maybe even some pegboard for inside the lid, this way when its open, I can hang some wrenches. I will add some outlets inside, a pop-up shelf on the outside. A cord reel And a real handle, not the welded on handles that are on there now.
it sure beats, that box sitting in a corner taking up space.
I'm getting some great ideas, please keep them commin' guys!
Thanks,

My first car was a 68 cougar. I can't really tell what year that one is though. Nice cart too.

Hey BIKER, I did check out MxTras stuff...WOW! they look awsome...Now I see why you used his ideas. I like what you've done also.

I want something alittle smaller, and to be able to really put to use, something that has been hanging around doing nothing. This site has really lite a fire under my AZZ, so has some warm weather.

Nice job thou!!!

I have been designing something similar and have not got past the design part yet...

I am planning on having a place to put some muffin tins.. and label the muffin holes 1-12. As I take bolts/small parts off start putting them in hole 1 and work up to 12. Helps to keep organized and know what order things go back on. Maybe even cut out magnets to put in the bottom of the holes to help prevent spilling.

I also have provisions for a work light that can be mounted in several positions. And a tray that can extend out to set tools that are currently in use. Both of these mount to the cart with the same style of mount. I plan on putting several of the mounts around the cart for adjustability.

Thats all I can remember of my design right now. I will take a look at my notes/sketches later when I get home from work.
