So I am looking for some ideas to make some add-ons for my 41 inch harborfreight box. Has anyone ever made their own hutch or top or pry-bar rack? Just looking to add on some things that will extend the life of useability of my box with storage and not get stuck dropping the coin on a big big box.

Was curious who has did their own tinkering and made some components themselves. Pics please!

Do a search. There are A LOT of threads on custom made pry bar racks. One thing I like is my rattle can holder. It holds my most commonly used stuff like wd40, Kroil, lithium grease, brake cleaner, air tool oil and a torch. I also clip my tape measures, razor blade, and tool hook to it which I hang keys from, rags, etc. Here's a ****** pic I have.8980480ee3195714efacaec9d4c5e173.jpg

I'll have to grab a photo, but I made up a quick wooden rack for long extensions and magnetic pickup tool, that hangs on the side of my SPG 42 box. It's functional, but I'd like to make one out of angle stock when I get the chance.

There is a bunch on custom stuff on the cart
from the pry bar and hammer racks, to the license plate glove dispenser, the peg board/wire shelving but it works very well... and was thought out as needed technically the whole cart is custom.

I used some steel pegboard panels from shop display racking and cut it down and framed it into a panel to hang on one end of my roll cabinet same way side cabinets do, made tray on side for cans and couple mugs :) plus hooks for power lead roll and airline and one panel for prybars extensions or screwdrivers, paper roll hanger and glove box, magnetic led torch and magnetic parts trays live on it too. being peg easy move layout as things develop, cost next to nothing, most of cost was in decent matching paint.
Done top drawer on side cabinet with a lockable lid so can keep phone keys etc extra safe and recessed height of lid so clipboard sits on top an drawer still closes so makes good writing platform when need or extra worktop type space when open.
Is a massive thread on here somewhere with some amazing ideas .
My next one is u channel framing welded to base with further base framing support and better casters so can move better on wheels or via forklift for longer distance outbuildings or loading on truck .

I've added these storage tops to a few of my benches and roll-a-rounds. A 2 x 6 and a steel top make for a tough and versatile bench top.
Having storing space for the plastic shoe boxes makes keeping sand paper, clamps and other much used items clean and at hand.
This was built on top of a trash picked vanity.

Painting to match.

As it sits today with a lot of hard use...

I built this one for a cheap Craftsman Roller I just picked up. The cabinet was only 32" high so this got it up to a more usable work level for me.

The cabinet came with a heavy duty particle board top so I pocket screwed the new base to that.

Painted black to match it looks like it came that way. :)

You can see an add-on screw driver box I bolted in place and, after this pic was taken I have added an outlet and cord so tools can be plugged in.

I made this wooden insert for the top box on my craftsman stack to hold my gear wrenches. I did have to cut the latch off of the lid to get it to work, but i clearly never close it anyways. It didn't take me much time to make and does exactly what I need it to do. its also a great way to be able to quickly see what is not put away and also opened up some drawer space. it might not be the best solution for shorter guys as im 6'+ depending on what boots im wearing, and its just at the maximum height I would want them at.

The other basic thing that i did was ditch the crappy flattened foam drawer liners and cut my own out of a left over piece of pond liner, it helps keep things from sliding around and I don't feel bad about throwing stuff back into the drawers when I'm cleaning up in a hurry.

I love the height of these, I strayed away from the hf boxes for benches because they would be to short for me. This also reminds me of something I saw on pintrest (i think?) where someone build a simple writing/ work platform that sat inbetween the bottom and middle box and was nothing more than a piece of 3/4 plywood on some full extension sliders that could be pulled out to set things on or to use as a place to make notes, then could be slid out of the way.

I made this back piece to hang things on and for magnetic stuff, I 2 way taped the power bar to it for my rechargeable light, cordless impact charger etc. 16 gauge steel (I think?) 54"x 18" welded to a piece of 2x2x 1/8" angle 54" long, the angle iron gets sandwiched under neath my stainless top to hold it down.
