Cute little Blackhawk set OLD!

Look at this cute little 1/4" drive Blackhawk tool set. It's pretty dirty and really needs some detailing, but it's pretty cool nonetheless. There is no ratchet with it, but there is a little breaker bar, an extension, and a ratcheting screwdriver. There is also a flat-blade 1/4" drive screwdriver bit shown between the breaker and the extension. It's coated in hardened old grease, but will clean up well, I think.

I haven't seen anything quite like it before. Anyone know the vintage?

I just sent a PM with this same pic to Bull, and he has first shot at it if he wants it. If not, I'll decide whether to sell it now, or keep it for a while. I just thought you guys/gals who like older Blackhawk tools might find it interesting.

Neat set. Alloy artifacts has one similar. He has dated them from about 1930 to 1936.

I think very, very few 1/4 sets came with ratchets back then. The 9/32 and 1/4 sizes didn't seem to start getting popular until late 30's. I think 1/4 ratchets were considered more of a luxury item until late 40's/50's.

Very cool indeed! What is the best way to clean stuff like this ? I picked up a neat little Plomb 1/4 in ratchet , and a Thorsen 1/4 in set missing the ratchet also. The box is in very good shape but several of the sockets have some new rust on them. I don't mind patina but I don't want any pitting to get started. Semichrome , Flitz ?

Thanks, Scott! Indeed, I have quite a lot of recent tool scores sitting around. But I stopped posting them on GJ, because I was spending way too much time doing so. I need to sell a percentage of the tools I buy, in order to have the funding available to buy more.

My ultimate goal is to end up like Jack Vines (Packard V8), with a beautiful collection of premium brand USA-made tools, for little or no investment. Thus, when I buy a batch of tools, I need to sell some of them in order to reduce my investment in the few tools I want to keep. But before, I was spending so much time listing my recent purchases on GJ, that I had no time left for selling! So now I'm trying to balance things a bit, and put more items on eBay and the GJ classifieds.

I do miss listing recent purchases on GJ. I love those "You ****" awards, and I enjoy sharing my experiences with other tool fanatics.
