Cutting 20lb propane tank in half

Valve is off. Rinsed and filled with water that sat for a while. It has since sat open and empty over a month.

Wife would like the two halves for planters.

I cut a huge water tank in half once with the sawzall and a few blades. Do the same? Use the angle grinder? Quick youtube scan suggests overthinking to me, including filling with water before cutting among other concerns.

What's easiest?

Yea if valve is off and washed you can use anything to cut it. Might still smell oderant but that is not gas.

angle grinder w/ .040" blade.

I cut hundreds of beer kegs in half (vertically!), this is the best way unless you have a bandsaw capable of splitting it...

I cut an old welding bottle in half once to make a bell. Was totally clean inside. I got some casters and screwed them down so my buddy could roll it while I cut. I made a little rest to help stedy the Metabo(angle grinder/cut-off wheel)and it cut really straight.

Sounds like the best idea of using what's on-hand. I have an old steel oxygen tank, an E-size I think it is, that might be worth trying this on. I suspect a larger bell gives a lower-note than a smaller bell, I'm not a musician, so I dunno. An E-tank is narrow.

My friend used to-do marine salvage, he has a ship's bell (I think it's bronze) that must-be 2 ft in diameter and probably as-tall, he has it mounted in the front of his home on a transverse-beam suspended by two wooden dock pilings. The top of the bell is about 7 ft in the air. The wall thickness is substantial. He has a striker next-to it. This is his doorbell.

I had done something very similar with some small diameter tubing. But I rolled it myself while cutting. Worked like a charm

Id use the 4.5" grinder with cutting wheel.

I cut an old CO2 tank with the K12 saw at the fire station. That LP tank will cut easier and faster.

I have cut literally hundred of propane tanks in half with oxy propane torches. Once the valve is out you can touch off the valve port to burn out any residue that's flammable. The smell ***** lol
