I would like to pick up some soft copper jaw for my wilton 1750.

I found these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-PAIR-OF-G...0?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item35c299ec5e

At $25 they seem to be a good price the only problem is they are for 6" jaws.

This guy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321040191554

Wants $69 plus shipping for the 5" model.

I think the above costing almost $85 is WAY too much.

Any problems with me simply cutting the 6" down via 1/2" on each side... looking at both of them that's the only difference I can really see being the width and how I could cut the larger size down...

Just wanted to ask first before I bought the larger ones or if anyone has done it.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Why would you pay more when you can get what you need cheaper and just mod it a little. I would take the 6" jaws and cut the 1/2" off the TOP of each end then take the extra 1/2" of the jaw face that sticks out and bend it back against the side of the vise jaw. That would help hold the jaw cover into place better too.

Excellent!

Thanks for all the help. Just wanted to make sure that cutting the ones would be ok!

I think that's a good deal for the money!

Will post pics once it's modded!
