What tool should I use to cut laminate?

Scoring cutter, or hand shear, or router bit, or strip cutter, depending on what you're trying to do. I've never been thrilled with running a big, thin, floppy, brittle sheet through a table saw; it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

When I was in the formica shop, we used a table saw with a plywood blade for straight cuts.

For cutting for an "L" shaped top, we would offset the laminate by about 1 1/2 inches, and trim it with a router, after edging the top.

Once the laminate was applied we would trim it with a router.

In every case, when using the router, use a bit with a bearing guide.

Once you've done it a few times, it's easy, as long as you have room to work
