Cutting Torch Rebuild

My Harris 72-3 cutting torch is just starting to free flow oxygen. Bill's average rebuild cost is 45 dollars plus shipping, while I can buy the rebuild kit off EBAY for 20 dollars. Anyone ever rebuilt their own torch? Looking at the diagram, it doesn't look like it would be that hard to do. I do know not to get oil on any of the rebuild parts.

I bought a kit from the torch guy [www.regulatortorchrepair] and did it myself. It works fine. But they do a lot more: they clean the torch and parts in ultrasonic, install packings and test. It looks new when you get it back.

I have my LWS rebuild them. They clean and check everything including cutting new seats if needed before the rebuild.

I bought my Harris in 1984. It started leaking were you push to start cuting 25 years ago i tryed to repair it but ended up haveing it rebuilt then it happen agin 3 years ago i ordered the right oring and it still leaked so i had it rebuilt agin. I now have 2 Torches so sending it off is not a problem. I scrap and do custom metal fab Harris is one of the best torches made.

I'm interested to see how this rebuild goes. A DIY might be very handy for others in similar shoes.

If you decide to do it yourself, and it's not that complicated with a kit, do NOT use a flammable/combustible lubricant. DuPont makes a non-combustible grease called Krytox. It's expensive but a little dab goes a long way.
