I need a new one, what do you guys recommend? just for use around the farm, nothing over 1" thick.

I've been very happy with my medium duty smith outfit and my victor journeyman. My dad also really likes his harris pipeliner outfit. Any one of those three would be super choices around a farm.

You cannot go wrong with Victor, A.O. Smith or Harris. Check the price and availability on tips some are way cheaper than others.

If you can find a rebuilt and restored Airco torch that would be the ticket. I found 1 at a flea market superb torch all around.

Airco torch should be easy to spot only torch with a corn cobb handle.

Victor and Smith/Miller dominate the market around here. I use a Journeyman outfit.

Harris is also decent but I prefer Victor or Smith.

Guess I am just partial to airco redneck welder could come from selling them for 3 Airco dist. I use to work for.

I Have a Harris i bought in 84. It has been rebuilt i cut up steel for scrap and did part time welding. Its the easyest to get tips for around here.

I've got a harris and a victor I run for work but personally I have an old meco that I love (picked up both regulators, two torch body's and a rosebud setup and a cutting setup for $60 from an auction with two hoses). Gotta order in tips but it's nice. Can't go wrong with any name brand.


If you buy second hand and you're worried about it any shop can send out the regs and torches to be rebuilt. I recently had a victor clone rebuilt ($57) and a acetylene regulator rebuilt ($45, my ******* coworker knocked it over. Grr) and you can't tell a diffrence between the rebuilt units and new ones.
