I have an old chopsaw sitting next to my hose machine for cutting hydraulic hoses if that is what you were wondering. It stinks but if you aren't cutting them all day it works good

Wrap with some kind of tape where you want make the cut. Using a fine tooth hack saw blade cut in the middle of the tape. Don't try to hurry it, and you will get a good cut, without any high dollar equipment.

Any abrasive wheel will do. I've made a bunch of hydraulic hose cuts with a chop saw. Be sure that there's good ventilation. The synthetic rubber smokes a lot.

Chop saw or die grinder with a cutoff wheel. Built more hydraulic hoses than I probably will the rest of my life in a short stint at a heavy equipment manufacturer. Don't forget to blow the debris out with compressed air when you're done!

I wrap it with a couple of turns of Duct Tape then slice through it with one whack on a sharp chisel.

This is prob. the best method however we do use a Chop saw on all of our Gates hose at work. Its quick but smells like **** if you are making many hoses.

At our shop we use a chop saw with a regular abrasive blade for 1 & 2 wire hydraulic hose and a diamond blade for the 4 & 6 spiral stuff.

Channellock is not known for their steel strength, especially in their cutting edges. Anything that involves hard material needs something better.

At a minium, OP needs to switch over to a hardened blade.

Something like a cable shear for wire rope. Thats what bike mechanics use to cut lined cable housing, for example. The knipex and felco have max of ~1/4 inch. Then, above that you'd need a big wire rope shear. The channelock cable cutters listed are for soft al and cu cables if my memory is correct.

Lots of other options as noted noted abovee. Whether or not hand tools iw desired of course maybe an open question for OP.

Depends on which one you have. Felco makes a 5/8" capacity cable cutter (and a 1/2" and 3/8" version). So does H K Porter. I used to own a manual Hydrashear with a 1-1/8" cable capacity, but they make bigger ones too.

But yes, you need something with a cutting edge meant to handle hard steel wires. And that's not going to be Channellock diagonal cutters.

Yeah, i agree with all of this. the classic Felco c7 and the similar knipex 190mm are your basic tool-box hand tools for bowden brake, clutch, and control cables in various applicaions.
