CV Axle Puller Question

I'm in a pickle doing a CV axle today, worked on a 2006 Dodge Stratus & I couldn't get the axle to pop out. The inner joint is stuck (older Camry have the same set up) I tried everything & there's no room to pry or wedge. So I was wondering if there's a tool out there that can make the job easier.

I saw a video on youtube that a guy fabricate his own slide hammer with vice grip pliers & clamp onto the inner joint.

I'm open to suggestions.

I've used a chain and a slide hammer, wrapped around the back of the cv, with a nut and bolt or a hook to hold and one or two pulls it's usually right out

I don't remember exactly how i did it on my kia (its been a few years)
but i took the steering knuckle loose and used it like a slide hammer, it worked real well pulled them right out

I am imagining you are talking about the driver side, there is enough room to put a straight tip pry bar in there at an angle to "pop" it. There is a lip machined on the inner part you can put your pry bar against.

I've never done a stratus, but If I don't have enough room to pry, sometimes If I can fit a good size chisel between the trans and the shaft I can wedge the chisel in with a hammer to pop the shaft out. And indexable pry bar works well too. One time I used a bearing splitter attached to a slide hammer.

Sometimes putting outward pressure on the inner joint with a pry bar while smacking the side of it with a hammer will do the trick as well. You just need it to move enough to clear the snap ring & it should slide right out.

I remember having the same issue on a stratus, if I remember right I think I had to go thru the top with a steaight tip pry bar to pop it.

seems there are many ways can be done. I know about the OTC special puller but there's no room since there's some type of transaxle spacer plate.
I never have luck with the pry bar, though indexing pry bar might give a try.

My '99 Breeze was like this. Took quite a bit of trying to get just the right setup, but it came out when I did.

If you rotate the axle, the clip may move to a more adventageous orientation (hope I didn't offend any Asians). When installing the axle, my book says to have the open side up, evidently because that is the widest part, and it will fall down into the groove a little.

Many Germans axles there is no clearance so axle poppers may not work and not even the oem tool will take them out cause there are too slim for prying. An air hammer and and while some one applies force with a big pry bar will usually do it some times turning an axle 180 degrees will help
