I gave up trying to rebuild them. I’ve used all used all the tools. Seemed no matter how tight clean etc I got them they always slid off.

Reman axles ftw

Affirmative. I have 3 boot clamp tools. My friend’s Sante Fe just started clunking and I found the boot split. The reman half shaft costs less than my Knipex boot clamp pliers. Perhaps a use case for my tools will come up eventually but in this case the replacement half shaft is the more intelligent repair.

Unless things have drastically changed remanufactured axles are garbage. Are we talking about band clamps or oetiker style?

Those eared clamps were invented by a Swiss company, Oetiker. There are some knock offs that are not nearly as good, like the junk clamps on my Hyundai. Knipex used to make the plier style crimp tools in both end and side crimp, for Oetiker Oetiker now makes their own tools in a new plant in CT. I assume Knipex still makes those tools. Unless it is a very wide clamp, the side crimp model from Oetiker will fully engage from side or end. There are other style boot clamps but the eared ones are pretty common. If you use eared clamps and they are genuine Oetiker and good tooling, they work fine.

You guys know what works amazing on these clamps, the pex crimp tool. I work on European cars and those clamps are super hard to get a good crimp without really squeezing the hell out of it. I seen the tech next to me using one and he squeezed that clamp with ease...and the best thing about is that it's ratcheting, and it has like a gear reduction on it too. I walked over to home depo plumbing section and bought one, it came with a **** load of clamps too. Hands down the best way to crimp a cv boot!
