D.E. Whiton Adjustable 3 Jaw Lathe Chuck

I bought this 3 jaw adjustable D. E. Whiton chuck so long ago that I've forgotten exactly when and what I paid. The idea of being able to "dial in" a 3 jaw chuck appeals to me. My original intent was to use it on one of my Seneca Falls lathes, but I have never been able to find a back plate with the 1 7/16 - 12 to match my spindles. I really don't want to go through the hassle of boring and threading a blank back plate. I am thinking that I might be able to find a small diameter face plate with the right thread and turn the OD to fit the chuck recess.

-It should appeal vs. mounting a 4 jaw every time the work requires concentricity. Nice chuck, small ones like that are hard to find. It appears to be a scroll chuck with independent jaws (like an Adjust-Tru), the best of both chuck types.

-That's why you've never used it. Hope you find something some day. I actually like single point threading but to each their own.

Joe, I have an extra dog driver for my 9" Seneca Falls. Its not pretty with quite a few holes drilled in it. Let me know if you think it would be useful & I'll post a picture.

Sounds like it might work, the ID of my chuck recess is just over .375.

I have 2 Seneca Falls 9 Inch lathes. One is a circa 1915 floor leg line shaft model with a 5 foot bed. The second is a circa 1896 4 foot bed that was originally a foot treadle machine. I've accumulated spare parts and tooling whenever I could find them. I have 3 and 4 Jaw chucks, a Jacobs 59B hollow headstock chuck, steady and follower rests and a full set + of 2S collets. I've never been able to find a collet drawbar and have only managed to get the flywheel/pulley to restore my treadle lathe

I'll dig it out tomorrow and post a picture--as I said, its not a beauty queen. My machine is probably the same as your circa 1915 lathe. A collet set for one of those machines is a real find.

Joe, here is a shot of my dog driver. Diameter is 5". The slots would create an interrupted cut in two places--not a huge problem, more of a pain in the ****. I'm not sure what you mean by "chuck recess". If you want it, it's yours for postage.
