Hey everyone, first time posting here but been around for some time now reading and learning. A couple of years ago we purchased about 1.25 acres and built our home. Now I'm itching to get my shop under way. A hobby shop mostly. I'll have a boat, kayak, 59 Chevy 3100 and lawn equipment for now to fill it. I do some classic car restorations/upgrades, depending on client requests. I grew up doing upholstery work with my folks and want to get back to doing some of that in time. So the shop will be for a little of everything.
Plan is for a 40x30x12 welded frame. The roof will be 3/12, one man door on the northern side, a 16x10 and 10x10 overhead panel doors and a 3x4 window on the west facing side. I also plan to have a 40x10 approach. I will be hiring out the foundation and having the building erected and wrapped. I will do the rest slowly from there.
I've gotten a couple of bids for concrete in the past couple days. One came in at $9000 for the 40x30 and $2k more for the 40x10 out front. This is not including him adding fill that I need(quite a bit) only grading and pouring the concrete. The other bid came in at $10,500 for everything including the fill and grade work. This is on a downslope where the fill will taper from none to about three feet rise toward the back of the building. I'm considering adding a patio extension while I'm at it to the house too. Not sure on this yet.
I stole this list from someone else here to give me a better idea in planning but here's an overall list of what I have in mind.
FLOOR
4” monolithic foundation with rebar
Smooth finish on concrete
WALLS
Spray foam insulation
Finish with OSB
ELECTRICAL
110v outlets are gonna be, 4-5 feet apart except where a window gets in the way)
Placed at 48” above the floor level so they aren’t hidden later by benches, toolboxes, etc
20 Amp circuits
Outlets on the exterior
Outlet on wall next to garage door opener
Outlets up high on wall: wall clock, TV, surround speakers
Lights – LED
Exterior lights –above each door opening
Plan for dedicated circuit for heater
Outlets for welders, air compressor and lift
WATER
Gonna have a bathroom and a sink to wash parts A hose bib on one exterior wall
A/C
Minisplit???
Things that I'm considering
4 post lift
Welder
Plasma Cutter
Parts Washer
Microwave
Refrigerator
Charging station
TV
Stereo
Cabinets and shelving
Any thoughts, ideas or critiques are accepted. Thanks for looking.
