thanks for the additional information.
Might i ask a few more questions?
- how many vehicles will this garage space be expected to hold? This might influence your decision to go with a two-post lift; especially since you are somewhat limited in having a 10' ceiling. Would an in-floor dual-scissor lift be an option at this point? It would give you more flexibility in space use i would think.
2 daily drivers and a project car inside and other 2 cars in the exterior part of the slope so i guess its plenty of space?
I want 2 post because of the ease of dropping subframes from under the car so scissor lifts are a no go.
- i'm not quite sure of the purpose of the "storage bar". Depending on the elevation rise, it might make a suitable spot for hanging cabinetry, a work bench and short cabinets beneath the work bench surface which might work better if the 'first step' was deeper and full width of the space to become a 'curbed' standing area in front of the work bench. Can the door to the indicated "room" be slid towards the rear wall to allow the step(s) to be deeper?
the idea of that bar is to fill it with garage stuff that is not necessarily cars related as such and also will work as a separation between parking space and a "reception" to the upper plant, plus i can put a couple of small fridges there
.
Just studied the plans and a huge beam travels on the "front" wall of the room so i could remove that wall if i wanted and turn that room into a small "workshop" but you never know when you will need an extra guest room and that is the only thing that keeps me from doing that.
- will the "machine room/storage" be fully enclosed by a door? It might be an ideal place for an air compressor to live.
yes it will be, and yes that is the plan. Water heater/softener and that sort of **** will be there along with engine hoist and whatever i can fit there including big *** odd looking tools
- will this space be air conditioned? The reason i ask if this so, you might incorporate car exhaust piping/penetrations/fans near your intended work area. This would allow you to have a car idling and still remain in a controlled environment.
no it wont be, there is a non mechanical extraction area, intended to give airflow to the garage, if that does not work i will add some extraction fans to it, but no, nothing near work areas. It is quite a need tho, welding without airflow would be such a pita.. I will work on that.
- since you have created a model of the space, i wonder if your drawing tool has access to a library of 'typical' sized cabinets, cars, and tools to allow you to quickly drop in so you can play with many different configurations.
not really, i'm using solidworks, not even architectural related but i will model some stuff and incorporate it as time allows.
- also, your dimensions show you have considerable space to play with, so you are not constrained in that regard, unless you own a fleet of hummers to dwell within. Lol the only real layout obstacle that i see is
perhaps the support column in the center of the space, but that may be a non-issue for your purposes.
yes that damn support column is such an obstacle because 1 car is a lot for the space but 2 cars is a tight fit on either side.
sorry not to be more specific, but as i found out in designing customer specific database tools/systems, without a (very) extensive list of customer needs/wants/desires/requirements, the software engineer/architect is left to make 'educated guesses'! Lol
sorry? Ha!.. I appreciate every keystroke, thank you very much!
