After lurking all the amazing garages here I FINALLY started on my own first garage.

It is a Garage with the excuse of building a house on top of it :willy_nil

Somewhere lost in a SD card must be a picture of the terrain before starting.

So this is it!

Everything was made in CAD and I just have a CAD viewer so I have not been able to extract a decent resolution picture of the plans so far. Still trying tho.

I have some Architectural renders, I just hope the thing ends up looking as them, because the background is far from reality as you can see in the progress pictures

Very nice renderings; impressive design!

It appears that your new neighborhood has quite the moderne flavor and your home should be a standout as well. Mind if I ask what the cost per square foot is at present in your state of Mexico?

Great looking design. I look forward to seeing the progress.
What are your plans for inside the garage?

Fantastic project. That's a serious foundation your are building and the architecture is amazing. It looks like many of the surrounding homes are modern as well - very cool. Please tell me the gray material in the renderings is board formed concrete.

Interior darkness will be a huge factor in the outcome but I have downloaded a lot of pictures from builds here.. including yours

Haha, serious foundation? I guess that coming from you I must take that as a compliment Mr. Concrete Everything

Still have to make a hole in the center for a small wall, I wanted a clean garage but the engineer that calculated the house said it was well worth it to support the 2nd floor.

Smooth board on the huge front wall (thin layer) and "dirty" board on the side and front ( full pour ). Or that is the idea.

Since my CAD knowledge is not better than average my best attempt at showing the plans is a print screen from the computer.

Just a link because its too wide: HERE

Update:

Not much done this week, 1st of May is Labor day here, and you know in LABOR day, you don't LABOR huh...

And today is the "Saint Cross" day which is also taken as the "Construction Worker" day, so they are only here for half day. They greeted the construction with their version of the Saint Cross tho haha..

I love the iron knots and how fast they make them

Well as always.. now they are running behind schedule, only 2 framers on site so progress went slow.

2 days to do this

Also been working on a solid file of the garage, I have no sense of space what so ever so I hope it helps me planing how to arrange cabinets and lift and stuff... Any ideas?

Re: D.TRECE - 62x36 - My first garage + house

It would help us help you if you could label and dimension the areas of the garage. Are you flexible as to what is shown in the rendering? What will be the height of the garage? Where will your rough plumbing/electrical be placed? All these considerations (and more) come into play when trying to arrive at a realistic set of 'suggestions'. Just my two pesos! lol

LOL

Here it is..
D13.0051s.jpg

I can't move any walls at this point, every wall was engineered to support something.

Also looking for "small" 2 post lifts.. so far the only options I know of are:
Bendpak XPR-9 ( I don't like the baseplate for the cables )
MaxJax ( doesn't lift that much )

Re: D.TRECE - 62x36 - My first garage + house

Thanks for the additional information.

Might I ask a few more questions?
- How many vehicles will this garage space be expected to hold? This might influence your decision to go with a two-post lift; especially since you are somewhat limited in having a 10' ceiling. Would an in-floor dual-scissor lift be an option at this point? It would give you more flexibility in space use I would think.

- I'm not quite sure of the purpose of the "storage bar". Depending on the elevation rise, it might make a suitable spot for hanging cabinetry, a work bench and short cabinets beneath the work bench surface which might work better if the 'first step' was deeper and full width of the space to become a 'curbed' standing area in front of the work bench. Can the door to the indicated "room" be slid towards the rear wall to allow the step(s) to be deeper?

- Will the "machine room/storage" be fully enclosed by a door? It might be an ideal place for an air compressor to live.

- Will this space be air conditioned? The reason I ask if this so, you might incorporate car exhaust piping/penetrations/fans near your intended work area. This would allow you to have a car idling and still remain in a controlled environment.

- Since you have created a model of the space, I wonder if your drawing tool has access to a library of 'typical' sized cabinets, cars, and tools to allow you to quickly drop in so you can play with many different configurations.

- Also, your dimensions show you have considerable space to play with, so you are not constrained in that regard, unless you own a fleet of Hummers to dwell within. lol The only real layout obstacle that I see is perhaps the support column in the center of the space, but that may be a non-issue for your purposes.

Sorry not to be more specific, but as I found out in designing customer specific database tools/systems, without a (very) extensive list of customer needs/wants/desires/requirements, the software engineer/architect is left to make 'educated guesses'! LOL

2 daily drivers and a project car inside and other 2 cars in the exterior part of the slope so i guess its plenty of space?

I want 2 post because of the ease of dropping subframes from under the car so scissor lifts are a no go.

the idea of that bar is to fill it with garage stuff that is not necessarily cars related as such and also will work as a separation between parking space and a "reception" to the upper plant, plus i can put a couple of small fridges there .

Just studied the plans and a huge beam travels on the "front" wall of the room so i could remove that wall if i wanted and turn that room into a small "workshop" but you never know when you will need an extra guest room and that is the only thing that keeps me from doing that.

- will the "machine room/storage" be fully enclosed by a door? It might be an ideal place for an air compressor to live.

yes it will be, and yes that is the plan. Water heater/softener and that sort of **** will be there along with engine hoist and whatever i can fit there including big *** odd looking tools

- will this space be air conditioned? The reason i ask if this so, you might incorporate car exhaust piping/penetrations/fans near your intended work area. This would allow you to have a car idling and still remain in a controlled environment.

no it wont be, there is a non mechanical extraction area, intended to give airflow to the garage, if that does not work i will add some extraction fans to it, but no, nothing near work areas. It is quite a need tho, welding without airflow would be such a pita.. I will work on that.

- since you have created a model of the space, i wonder if your drawing tool has access to a library of 'typical' sized cabinets, cars, and tools to allow you to quickly drop in so you can play with many different configurations.

not really, i'm using solidworks, not even architectural related but i will model some stuff and incorporate it as time allows.

- also, your dimensions show you have considerable space to play with, so you are not constrained in that regard, unless you own a fleet of hummers to dwell within. Lol the only real layout obstacle that i see is perhaps the support column in the center of the space, but that may be a non-issue for your purposes.

yes that damn support column is such an obstacle because 1 car is a lot for the space but 2 cars is a tight fit on either side.

sorry not to be more specific, but as i found out in designing customer specific database tools/systems, without a (very) extensive list of customer needs/wants/desires/requirements, the software engineer/architect is left to make 'educated guesses'! Lol

sorry? Ha!.. I appreciate every keystroke, thank you very much!

Any updates on this amazing project?

Nice first post!

project continues, I have not updated it because it is just more of the same, walls going around.. as soon as something different happens I will take some pics. Maybe by the end of the week if concrete allows.

Thank you

The architectural renderings really caught my interest so I'm really interested to see how this turns out. I'll keep checking back for progress. Thanks!

Re: D.TRECE - 62x36 - My first garage + house

Rain has slowed the already slow progress and there isn't much to add.

Foundation for garage columns and walls is done.

5 feet deep with 2 feet of poor concrete for columns and just 2 feet of poor concrete for walls.
D13.0059s.jpg

Center column/wall foundation is 9x9 ft
D13.0060s.jpg

Last section of perimeter wall is done
D13.0061s.jpg

The hole for the water tank is getting prepped for a small concrete pour to get a flat base to sit on.
D13.0062s.jpg

Excavation of foundation for the perimeter walls is 5ft deep/2ft wide.
SIDE:
D13.0063s.jpg

BACK to rear neighbor. you can see a bit of his foundation too.
D13.0064s.jpg

SMALL SIDE:
D13.0065s.jpg

MIDDLE. F shaped for some columns/walls that will be there.
D13.0066s.jpg

Rock foundation on progress
D13.0068s.jpg

So nothing interesting happening anytime soon.

Waiting on the steel guys to come over and prepare the footings.
