If you have been following along I started working on a parking meter stand with a Ducan fine meter box on it, When I left off I finished the stand, now I have finished the Ducan fine box and I got it mounted on the base that is completed. This took some interesting work to fix a broken hinge on the door for the fine box, I made a mold out of galvanized steel from the good side to form a new piece to replaced the broken side, I used JB weld to build it up, it turned out really good and I was happy with the results...I will quit talking or typing now and show you some pictures of the finished box, I still need to get the parking meter itself done next...Things never move to fast in DaBarn

It's been a while since I have visited DaBarn.
I see things are moving along quite well. The Extinguisher is awusome What a shine. I hadn't thought of mounting one from the bottom. Great idea.

Thanks for the complements, I was really happy with how the Ducan fine box turned out, I was really excited on the repair to the door hinge, the paint came out good too, although I did get some orange peel in it, you couldn't see it in the pictures, I always have trouble with laying down paint a little heavy

Great job on the resto a parking meter is on my want list too.

That was a very clever repair on the fine box hinge. I tried JB weld on my last gas pump but it didn't hold and after I had painted it the base split open just as if I hadn't touched it. The parking meter is a fine addition to the little party garage (I like it )

I picked up a cool little vintage fire extinguisher last Saturday at a local auction for $17.50, I thought it was a good buy, especially because it still had the original mounting bracket with it. I got it polished up this weekend and hung in DaBarn. I used some lemon juice and baking soda to remove some of the tarnish, then I hand rubbed it out with some light rubbing compound, then I put a coat of automotive wax on it. It didn't turn out to bad, but I might still pull it down and get the buffer out and polish it some more (I just have to find a sucker to hold it while I buff it) Here's some before and after pics of it, And I found a spot for on the southwest wall, now I need to find one of those vintage fire extinguisher signs to hang above it

The repair area was pretty small and it has no pressure on it, so far the repair has held up really well, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Now I need to get to work on mounting my Goodyear sign for "The Little Party Garage"

I got really lucky on removing the pins, on this job the holes were drilled all the way threw, so when I took the door off I was able to just tap them out with a very small home made punch from the backside

Wow! It has been a while since I posted anything about DaBarn I took a week off work to just tinker around in the barn and finish up some projects I had going...especially the Goodyear sign that has been sitting around for long time, It turned out to be a productive week off and I will post some pictures...


Last week I had a local Amish crew come and put a new metal roof on the house, it feels good to get that out of the way! The old asphalt shingles were 19 years old and were looking really bad, the crew done a nice job! they started at 7:00 am and were done just after lunch

Last night while taking photos of the new roof, I shot a cool photo of the barn with the sun setting, it cast a cool shadow across the yard...

The service door on my barn was in dire need of some fresh paint. I took advantage of the nice November weather and got a coat of paint on it

I had picked up a vintage ball point pen vending machine a few weeks back, I had to do some work to it and I gave it a thorough cleaning and wax job before I got it hung in DaBarn...

I got another corner shelf made to display a couple of my older coin-op vending machines on that I have had stored in the basement for years now, I had made a corner shelf a while back for my copper still to sit on and I really liked how it turned out! so I just copied that one...I sat a vintage select-o-vend candy machine and a vintage postage stamp machine on it, I was happy with how it turned out!

With a week off work I got a huge project done this week, I have had a large Goodyear sign laying around for a long time now. I have been trying to figure out a way to get it mounted on the wall (it took a lot of thinking and a few beers to get it done). I was real excited to get it finished and I was happy with how it turned out!

This is what I started with.

I started with two sheets of 1/2" sanded plywood and cut it down to 32" x 96" then I laid out the letters on the boards and drew around them...

I had to figure out a way to attach the letters to the plywood, I came up with using 1/4-20 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts with 2 washers and a nut to create the studs for the letters.

Once I got all the studs on the letters, I had to mark all the holes and drill them out, then I used another flat washer and 1/4-20 nut on the back side to hold them on the plywood.

After getting the letters where I wanted them I moved on to making a frame for the sign out of some 1"x4" rough cut cedar boards, I notched the boards out to receive the plywood, then I glued the plywood to the frame and shot some brad nails in it and let it dry overnight.

Once the frame was done I sanded it down then primed and painted the plywood a flat black, I'm leaving the cedar bare, it will darken up on its own over time, I also added some flat black metal brackets to dress up the frame bit.

When the paint dried, I hand waxed all the letters with some good cleaner wax, then I installed the letters and got it ready to mount.

I had to wait till my son came over to help me mount it,This thing is heavy and its nearly 16' long and this doesn't even include the word TIRES, I will work on those at a later time, I was really excited on getting this done and hanging in DaBarn

Thanks for the compliment! I found some of the Goodyear colors online and actually had Home Depot mix me up a quart of the Goodyear Royal Blue for the background, but at the last moment Mrs Bear and I decided to go with the flat black, We really like how it turned out

Its always a honor to have you checking out "My little Party Garage", I really liked how the corner shelves turned out too, they are a good way to maximize some space in DaBarn, The Goodyear sign turned out way better then I ever thought it would and this thing is huge! nearly 16' in length and 3' in height, and it was a good challenge for me to figure out just how to mount it As for that Goodyear color chart I don't know or think it is accurate? (I just found that picture of the chart on the internet) I was just using it to figure out what color of blue to paint the background of the sign, the wife and I decided to make the background black at the last minute anyway... We are really happy with how it turned out

As you can see on the back of all my letters it says Property Of Goodyear Tire and Rubber W73, I don't know if the W is for white and the 73 is for the year the sign was produced? I did try to do some online research on Goodyear signs but couldn't find much history on them
