Bears Fan I have a question Something that has always bothered me.

If Indiana is on the eastern time zone why do they say you are in the mid west?

Great question! I have lived in Indiana all my life and never understood that phrase either when I heard it When I think of the mid west, I think west of the Mississippi river like Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri ect.

Indiana should have its own time zone! not too many people really like the time changes around here, except for the large companies that do a lot of business on the east coast, they like to be on the same time as them. Its all politically controlled for them, aka special interest

It's getting close to 2 years with the bare OSB. Are you still happy with it or would you do something different?
I ask because I am finishing the inside of my garage and 2 of the walls will be OSB, while one wall is already painted plywood and the fourth wall will be a combination of stained pallet wood and possibly corrugated metal, or something interesting.

I still like the bare OSB, I hang a lot of stuff up on the walls and I can move it around if I like and never have to worry about seeing nail or screw holes or scratching paint, I know some people like it painted white to help make it brighter inside, but I'm really happy with it as is, I don't have any plans of painting it.
On my attached garage it is all drywall painted white and I used some galvanized steel on it as wainscoting and I really like how that looks too I will post a pick of the wainscoting in my attached garage when I get a chance...

I'm still debating painting, but that would be something that would require regular maintenance, where the bare OSB would not. The OSB wall will be by my bench, band saw and drill press, so there is the slight chance of some flying debris.
I have 2 32"X72" pegboards going on that wall as well, which I do plan to paint white.
I should have (8) 4' LED lights waiting to be installed when I get home, so hopefully lighting won't be an issue.

His exact words were those damn boxes will not make you a dime, but take every dime you make. Its true. It was always amusing seeing a new fresh out of school tech come into the shop with a shiny 10k box only to end up having a discount sale a few months later because turning wrenches wasn't as glorious as the tech school made it out to be.

I'm there with you! when I started out in the body shop it always amazed me when the guys would get excited about the Snap On or Mac tool trucks pulling up...they would run out to see what new tool they could pick up and of coarse make their monthly payment to the man

By the way the Perry Oil Company is looking amazing! My favorite part is still the office

lol oh the toolbox wars that's fun. ive been a mechanic for a while and I have a 10k toolbox which is just about paid off now lol but that is something I will have my entire life so its a great investment. but that snap on truck is the devil I swear.

Thanks for checking in! Boy it really does freak you out when your child gets in a wreck, the worst feeling ever!!! She is just fine now! As for the car, I just picked up one of our trailers from work and drove it up on the trailer, it ran fine, just a small leak in the transmission cooler. The insurance company totaled the car, but I bought it back and now have it at a local body shop getting fixed

As for my yard I do all the maintenance on it myself, I spray Trimec on it twice a year, its just a broadleaf herbicide and I also fertilize it twice a year. The single best thing to do for your yard is to set your mower height to 4" tall. I believe this is one of the hardest things for people to understand about creating a nice looking yard is keeping your grass around 4" tall for both weed control and making it look green and full.

The time zone thing in Indiana has always been a pain! I think we are to far west to be in the eastern time zone, but this is what the business community wants for commerce...

Its been a slow week in the barn! Nothing got done! As 1/2 Cup would say no QST (Quality Shed Time). I did snap this shot of a really cool sunrise this week getting in my truck on the way to work

Had some excitement with the company truck this week, I nailed a deer on the way to work! Lucky it was just a small one and it hit dead center on the front of the truck, the steel bumper took the full force of the deer and it didn't damage any of the plastic on the front or the grill, I lucked out and got very little damage and thankfully it killed the deer instantly! so it didn't suffer at all. And to top it off another one of our service trucks nailed one too this week

Picked up a new set of 2017 Silverado rims and tires this week, they were take offs from a new truck and only had 25 miles on them. I put them on Sunday morning and couldn't even wait to get them cleaned up before taking them for a test drive! So I upgraded my 2014 Silverado to a 2017 Silverado, does this mean I can retitle it as a 2017 now?

I'm glad it was just bambi! I didn't sustain too much damage...I like the look of the 2017 rims on my truck too, much better than the stock steel Chevy rims.

Picked up my first piece of neon for DaBarn, not really petroleum related but I got it for a steal...Okay free

Finally got around to finishing the shelf I started for some of my vintage five gallon oil cans and got it hung today, I cleaned and polished the cans with some cleaner wax and added a vintage kerosene can that my dad picked up for me. I think I can squeeze them together and get a sixth can up there, but its all good for now...I couldn't decide how I wanted to stain the piece of Butternut wood I used so I just left it plain and hung it up

Bears: nice looking shelf and shop. if you like the look of naked wood you might rub on some BLO (boiled linseed oil) or i'm going to work on a mix we've been talking about doing for our vises with REAL LINSEED OIL, turpentine, beeswax and Japan dryer cause some of the guys are saying BLO has too many extra chemicals in it that are not healthy.

I love the 22.9 for gas and 25.9 for regular and i remember asking for $2 worth of gas and getting almost a tank full when i started driving my 62 mercury comet back in 1971.

Checked in on the Impala today at the body shop, they had it tore down and up on the frame machine, the right front tire was pushed back 3"...they had all the parts in to put it back together. One bad thing was the sub frame/engine cradle was ripped out where the motor mount was, so they picked a used replacement for that (picture below of the engine cradle/sub frame)

Thanks for the visit! I originally wanted to find a piece of old barn wood plank for the shelf but I couldn't find a piece big enough, so I picked up this piece of butternut wood from the local sawmill and just left it plain. I'm always trying to make everything I restore look new and shinny, but I didn't want this shelf to look new at all, so I left it plain. I hope it darkens up a little over time, but for now I'm happy with it

The pictures don't do it justice! It is a really neat little museum of Shell petroliana and it is just as impressive on the inside, He also has a car collection to match, I always enjoy my visits out there, he is 70 years old and still works in the body shop everyday. He has truly found what makes him happy and made it his life's work

also another huge grassy area without a weed in site just like your yard. is the main thing just to keep it at 4 inches or how often do you fertilize? also how do you keep moles and raccoons and other critters from chewing it up?

The Shell station is just his own little creation, its not a working gas station or museum! its just one mans hobby and passion gone extreme..

He also cuts his grass at a higher level to get that full awesome looking yard and maintains it with fertilizer and weed control...I mow mine at 4" tall and fertilize it twice a year and spray it with Trimec twice a year, Trimec is a broadleaf herbicide. I still think the very best single thing you can do for your yard is to mow it at least 4" tall, it will make it look greener and make it look a lot fuller and it helps with weed control by crowding out the weeds...

My daughter will drive the Impala again after it is repaired, she still has one more year of college left and we wanted to keep that car because it was in such good shape and it is a large car just in case there would be another accident

Its been a while since I have checked in on your thread I just love going out to the body shop and looking at his collection, but it does make me feel inadequate

Hopefully the Impala will be back on the road by the end of next week and just in time for my daughter to be home for Christmas break, these guys at the body shop do good work and I trust them with my stuff...

Glad to see you stopping by my thread! I'm really glad the Indiana license plate arrived safely, It came off my wife's 1968 Volkswagen Beetle, it is old enough to register it as a historical vehicle that is why it is a special plate

Got to go on a amazing pick this week! Added some new pieces to DaBarn and I got to meet some very nice and interesting people and was giving the red carpet tour of a really cool place,

Total haul on a single pick

A cool street light! but I'm going to remove the two lights and mount them on the wall separately, then I will use the post for a different project I have been waiting to find a post like this one for a long time now...

Picked a really nice Gulf pump, I have always liked the look of this style of pump, but this is the first time I had a chance to pick one...It is in great shape with no damage and is complete

I picked up this vintage parts washer painted up in Gulf orange, it is in great shape except for a few dents in the tank...

Scored a 5 gallon Gulf oil can for my collection...

Got it rubbed out with some cleaner wax and sat it up on the new shelf that I hung this week

Maybe one of the coolest pieces of the pick was this airplane wing skin, It is a original skin and insignia from a military Birddog airplane just like the one posted in the last picture, these planes were used in the Korean War and Vietnam war for reconnaissance and training. It cleaned up real nice with some cleaner wax and I was real happy with how it looked hanging in DaBarn even though its not what I usually buy

Bears: up in the PNW all that stuff might have cost me more than your truck so happy to see you were able to buy it and still own your truck to haul it home.

while i love the look of your shop's walls i don't have the space for those sort of things and need the walls for racks to hold materials and cabinets, but i'm starting to see the benefit of maybe having one wall for just stuff to display.
