BF, you can always use the hopper as a dispenser for your corn flakes until you get the rest of the cabinet put together. You may have to weld up a stand for it though...:bounce:

pretty good video series. I watched his and a few more. I purchased a gun and valve from IDS Blast. Took a few years to unbox but glad I finally got it together.

Putting a hopper together in the kitchen is a far cry from putting a chopper together in the living room.

Scott

I used to park my motorcycle inside my apartment, back when I was a single man and had no garage :ROFLMAO:

Tony, didn't realize you didn't have a SD Until I saw your updated sheet. PM Me your address I've got you covered!

All the resto work is awesome, very satisfying to see the outcome.

Ice

That would be awesome of you, I sent you a PM. Thanks a Million 🤑

That reminded me of Jethro Bodine from The Beverly Hillbillies when he would eat cereal in that oversized bowl :)

Yeah, Ray does a good job with his videos, I can't believe the length they go through to keep the media from catching on anything inside the cabinet, can't wait to blast a few old cans I have sitting around, hope your enjoying that warm Florida sunshine right now 🏝️

09-X4.jpg

I got started on the cabinet, they have you changing the fresh air intake with the vacuum port or exhaust port, on the back side of the cabinet you now have the vacuum port which is open at the top and bottom, you need to plug the top off to keep media from falling inside, instead of ordering all these custom parts, I will make as many things as possible to keep the cost down.

10-X4.jpg

I made a poster board pattern for the cap and transferred it over to some galvanized steel I had laying around.

11-X4.jpg

12-X4.jpg

Here's the cap installed and sealed with some of the polyurethane caulk and some self tapping screws.

14-X4.jpg

I used the 3M double sided tape on all the seams, it looks like it will seal the cabinet up pretty good.

15-X4.jpg

I have the hopper and cabinet finished, it went together really well and I'm happy with it for being a cheaper priced cabinet from Harbor Freight, the only issue so far with the whole thing is when I went to put the latch on, it wouldn't close, I will have to move those two holes.

I had to order some of the 1" x 1/8" high density foam from Amazon to mate the hopper and the cabinet together, hopefully it arrives today (Saturday), so I can complete the assembly part.

The next part will take some time to locate all the parts for the mechanics of the cabinet, I know I could order everything from the Tacoma company, but I think that would be expensive, I want a great working blaster cabinet but I'm trying to keep the cost down too.

That would be amazing of you to send me those plates, I may just complete my mission of collecting all 50 states faster then I ever thought with the help of my Garage Journal friends, I figured it would take me years to put a set together, thanks to everyone that sent me a license plate

25-X4.jpg

I received a couple of really cool gifts in the mail today, I got a really nice Wisconsin plate from bulldog101 and a nice hand written letter

thanks so much Rick

I found some time to work on my sandblaster, I made this piece, it covers the new intake port that used to be the exhaust port, it keeps the media from bouncing out of the port, but it still lets fresh air in through the bottom, I saved about $20.00 as they sell these online.

19-X4.jpg

This is the inside of the hopper that I caulked the seams with polyurethane, they recommend you paint the caulk to make it more slick for the media to slide off and down to the bottom of the hopper, a little over kill? maybe! but I want this to preform as best possible. it was a lot of masking for four little strips :ROFLMAO:

I made my own inlet cover also. I just caulked my seams. Painting is probably a good idea. I did two standard bulbs (LED) in back corners but need to add a strip above the gloves. The only other update is to extend the little slope on the door that helps keep media inside.

You spent more on masking tape than you saved on paint…
PL8 collection is looking good, post pictures of the display when you get it up in DaBarn

Scott

Yeah! I thought the same thing too, that was a lot of tape, I'm assembling this thing in the house so I used some printer paper too :ROFLMAO:

The wife said if I left that sandblaster cabinet in the house much longer she was going to start using it as a pie safe, wait! what? that may not be such a bad idea :ROFLMAO: 😋 🥧

I'm really enjoying this sandblaster build, I have watched a **** ton of YouTube videos on this cabinet. I hope to finish the cabinet assembly this weekend, then starts the mechanical part, which will require spending some bucks! I already bought my first upgrade part for the hopper, I think this is probably one of the best and most important upgrades for this cabinet, it will replace the stock pickup tube that came with the cabinet.

Tony I'm watching close, I want to build a complete new blast cabinet, I have the same cabinet you are building but I need a bigger one. I got a 270 gallon fuel oil tank to use and that is the same valve assembly I researched to use. We put that valve in Donnies cabinet and it worked great.

That will be a big project building one from scratch, I will be follow along on your build too. I have enjoyed working on my blast cabinet, I need to spend some cash now on a window kit, regulator, foot pedal and gun, I also need a waste gate elbow for the back where the exhaust comes out and connects to the vacuum, I want to put it on casters too, so I can roll it around

Hey Nevada is for sale at 286$.
1645122610589.pngOur small trailer license's don't expire in Ontario and only cost $25.00.

John

I will take Nevada for $286.00 💰🤑🤣

I received an awesome package in the mail this week from floridafarmer, it just floors me the generosity of the Garage Journal members that took the time to send me all those license plates, these five polished up and look new

28-X4.jpg

floridafarmer also took the time to make me a whole stack of these awesome Chicago Bears/"DaBarn" My Little Party Garage decals,
how cool is that! I will have some fun with these decals.

Thanks a million Mark

Drum roll please! The new count for my 50 state license plate collection/mission total is now up to 37, it would of took me years to put this many together without the help of my Garage Journal friends

Heat%20Gun-X4.jpg

The wife caught me using her good hair dryer a while back trying to get that stock foam off that sandblaster cabinet that I have been working on 🤣 so she bought me a new toy, um I mean tool for my birthday last week :thumbup:

A little cool tip I saw from all the videos I watched on YouTube about this blast cabinet, you remove the rubber grommet from the back hole and cut it down to fit the side hole in the cabinet.

22-X4.jpg

23-X4.jpg

And it covers up the four old mounting holes too

24-X4.jpg

Got the caulk painted in the hopper and sealed the top of it with some polyurethane and the high density foam tape.

25-X4.jpg

26-X4.jpg

27-X4.jpg

I have the metering valve attached to the bottom door on the hopper by drilling a 1 1/4 hole in the lid.

28-X4.jpg

I cleaned up the metering valve and painted it black to keep it from rusting and it just looks better

That would be awesome of you to help me out on my license plate collection  I'm only 13 short right now :ROFLMAO:
I asked, and the only one my parents had offhand was my grandpa's vanity plate, which they didn't want to give up. They're gonna look around the garage though, so I'll let you know if something changes.

Its been a bit slow in DaBarn for the last couple of weeks o_O

32-X4.jpg

I did find some time to work on the glass setup for the sandblaster, I picked up some 10-24 riv-nuts and thumb screws to hold the frame in vs the stock setup.

33-X4.jpg

The riv-nuts worked out really good for this application :thumbup:

34-X4.jpg

After getting the twelve riv-nuts in, I removed the cheap foam that came on the blast cabinet and replaced it with some high density foam

35-X4.jpg

All the holes lined up perfect with the thumb screws :thumbup:

New logo is great, the blast cabinet is looking great also, I do like the thumb screws in the lens frame, that is one of the worst parts of my cabinet it has nuts and bolts holding it in, it takes two people to take it out. Very nice job

Jim

I could only buy those riv-nuts and t-bolts in bulk and I have more then I need left over, if your cabinet is like mine I will send you 12 riv-nuts and t-bolts free and I will even send the tool along with it and you can send that back to me when your done, just PM me

Nice work on the cabinet, Tony.
Logo looks great, look forward to seeing what it shows up on.

Scott

Thanks for the visit, I think the next step on the cabinet will be to make a angle iron frame with casters on it to make the cabinet mobile.

Nice Logo

Bugnut

Thanks for the visit and the compliment, the Vinylmaster software that came with my cutter is pretty fun to work with, its a great way to kill a few hours 🤣

Nice work on the blast cabinet BF, I look forward to seeing you use that on your restorations. :pimpflash

Jay

Jay

Thanks for checking in, I already have a bunch of stuff lined up to blast, I still need to pickup a new foot pedal and gun for the blaster.

Your blast cabinet is looking so good, I am beginning to wonder if the inside will ever see any sand!

Jeff

I know what your saying, I got this thing looking pretty good now and I'm not going to want to get it dirty 🤣

New logo is good. Might show up better with thicker letters.

JC

Yeah! I agree, it looked fine until I cut it, then I noticed the letters looked thin, I have already fixed the logo for the next one I cut.

Tony, thanks, when I get back home I'll DM you, my neighbor has the tool.

Jim

Let me know how many you need

Not much happening around here this week, the wife and I have been watching the Breaking Bad series on Netflix's, we are on season 5 episode 11, almost done with it and its getting really good

Woke up this morning to some more of that white **** ❄️❄️❄️ 😡😩
