In for the update on the 2” maple top…

Scott

Yeah! I know it sounds crazy o_O taking that 2" maple top off in favor of a 3/4" pine panel, but it was completely a visual thing for me? I put that maple top on Craigslist and a local man bought it the same day :D I'm always looking for ways to offset some of my spending that goes on inside DaBarn!

"When I die, I hope my wife sells all the stuff in my barn for what its worth and not what I told her I paid for it" :ROFLMAO:

Friday night before I stopped working in the barn, I used some wood filler to run over all the knots on the two panels.

21-X4.jpg

Then Saturday I sanded the two panels down with 220 grit.

22-X4.jpg

After cleaning up the panels I applied a liberal coat of Minwax dark walnut stain, I let it sit awhile before rubbing it off.

23-X4.jpg

24-X4.jpg

The last two shots are after applying a second coat of stain about four hours after the first coat, I will need to run out today to pick up some polyurethane, I want to add a DaBarn logo of some type in the center before I apply the poly, I worked on that last night but I was not being very creative, maybe I will come up with something today?

25-X4.jpg

I spent the rest of Saturday mowing the yard, we have gotten a metric **** ton of rain here this spring and I have been mowing twice a week, I did help the wife put new soil in her flower pots and she got her petunia's planted, so a pretty productive Saturday! Dang, I just realized why I feel so tired this morning

That is pretty!

Jon

Thanks! I'm finally motivated to work on the bench and get it finished

26-X4.jpg

27-X4.jpg

I designed a logo for the bench top, but I didn't like it. I thought it looked like a cheap decal, so I pulled it back off right away o_O

28-X4.jpg

So I went back to the drawing board and came up with this one which I like a lot better, I will use the decal as a stencil then paint DaBarn and gear orange and it does say customs under DaBarn, I will paint that silver.

29-X4.jpg

30-X4.jpg

I picked up the bench frame from the sandblaster yesterday and I done a little prep work on it last night, I want to smooth down the top corners before sanding and painting it orange too, its getting a little wild here in DaBarn with these crazy color choices :ROFLMAO:

BF, since you are changing color schemes to orange, I will take that non-conforming, obsolete
blue welding bench off your hands. ;) I will inquire about shipping costs and get back to you.

You need to rethink the logo... I don't have the programs at my disposal anymore but when the Bears went to the Superbowl I made this by cutting and manipulating the Bears logo... You only need to make the "N" you already have the "B", "A" and "R"

Well, I received a little surprise package in the mail a couple of days ago… anything in here look familiar? BF17EE14-77C2-4EDB-AB26-65834DD46B8D.jpeg

Can’t say THANK YOU enough for the Ford V8 license plate, Tony.
The craftsmanship is over the top! I have a place for it to go until the ‘32 is finished…133F4A5B-BC79-408A-826B-CB0BAE8C5A41.jpeg

The salsa and bbq sauce are going on the table at our Memorial Day weekend at the cabin up north.

Thoughtfulness like this is what makes the GJ such a great forum. Tony, you’re one of the best!

That's funny! I'm getting old and its too heavy to move now 🤣

I like that idea, but I already cut the stencils, I will have to try that next time.

I thought that I smelled bondo

Don

That's funny! I do love the smell of bondo and lacquer thinner in the morning :ROFLMAO: 😎

Like the second logo better too. To be all the rage, router or chisel out the logo then pour in some orange epoxy.

Shorty

That's a great idea! I do have a router, but I'm not sure if my hand is steady enough to make it look good

I'm glad you received your package in one piece! I made the license plate just for you, the BBQ sauce and salsa is made at a local bakery near me called Rise'n Roll, they were just voted to have the best donuts in the entire country, we call them crack donuts around here, they really are that good  have a great summer up in the mountains. Love the golf cart 😎

Well said,
I have a BBQ sauce that I have been saving for a family cook out also.

Jim

That sauce is pretty good, let me know how you like it 😋

01-X4.jpg

I have a black Husky toolbox and saw these cabinets at Home Depot on sale for $70.00 off each, so I got two of them to give me some extra storage room to organize some stuff and they do have a nice wood top on them.

02-X4.jpg

I got one cabinet assembled, these are pretty nice cabinets, I have a long weekend coming up so I will be able to get the other cabinet put together and maybe I will be able to get my work bench finished too 😎

Guess what I finally got to today. Thank you.

Jim

I spy a sandblaster and some riv-nuts

31-X4.jpg

I finished the new logo for my rolling bench yesterday, I'm happy with how it turned out, I used my vinyl cutter to design this, I then used the negative as a stencil so I could have a painted logo and not a vinyl decal.

32-X4.jpg

I have the stencil ready and masked for some orange paint 🍊

33-X4.jpg

Then I masked off the orange section and sprayed silver on the customs.

Here's a close up of the finished logo, I will let it dry for a day or two then cover the whole thing in a few coats of polyurethane.

I hope this doesn't affect my man card status, but I let my wife pick out the font and colors for the new logo  :ROFLMAO:

Nice work Mrs Bears Fan.
Tony There are many rewards for letting the Mrs get involved in our projects. I like the new logo. I'm getting closer to getting a label maker here. Ann thinks it will help her in her internet business

Don

Thanks for the visit! I really have enjoyed the new vinyl cutter, my wife is a word smith and a font snob 🤣 she likes messing with all the different fonts.

Yep, good call on her part. Looks great.

Shorty

Yeah! she enjoyed working with VinylMaster, that's the software that came with the vinyl cutter. Hey we have to let them get involved once in a while  🤣

Went to a garage sale this weekend and bought two things, this pair of vise grips and the tank, any guesses on what I'm making out of this one?

102-X4.jpg

I invited my mom and dad over for a BBQ today, they had picked these three items up for me at a sale, they are 80 and 81 and they are still going out there picking 😎

I did get some barn time in over the weekend, I put the first coat of polyurethane on the new bench top and lower shelf, it soaked in on this pine like water to a sponge, I will let this first coat dry over night before adding a second coat.

106-X4.jpg

I assembled the second Husky cabinet and rearranged things, now I get to play tetris with everything in the cabinets

Looks like a great meal for Memorial Day. It's good your folks are still around to pick and visit. Did you use some of the barbeque sauce on the pork burgers?

Billy

It was nice having a BBQ on Memorial Day with the parents, I don't use any BBQ sauce on pork burgers, just a shot of ketchup 😋

I managed to pick a couple of new items this week! I felt pretty lucky :) I scored a real all glass gas pump globe, it was really dirty but in great condition  I also picked up a vintage oil dispenser 🛢️

Man Tony
That globe sure cleaned up nicely. Are you going to make a decal for it or have a logo painted on it???
That greaser is one of my favorite ones. I think I have 3 or 4 with different feet or the handle is a bit different. funny that one hasn't found it's way into the shop for some attention

Don

Yes, the globe cleaned up so nice! its in perfect shape! except for one chip in the base, but that won't hurt anything, the base on it is six inches across and my sight glass gas pump has a seven inch base on it so I won't be able to use it on that :( I will use it on one of my other pumps. I will probably make a stencil and paint my own logo on it I'm just not sure which one yet

I have two of the greasers now, I need more time in DaBarn  maybe after I retire I can restore both of them? I do like all of your Signal brand items that you have done, I may have to copy one of your Signal paint schemes

I even found some blue casters for the bench :)

I got to go through some of my dad's things before he has an auction and I brought three of them home with me

02-X4.jpg

The stool was my grandpas milking stool, my dad has kept it all these years 😎

03-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

I also brought this vintage measuring wheel home with me, I will restore this one for display in DaBarn :)

05-X4.jpg

I need help with this one! I have no idea what this one is or was used for? let me know if any of you have seen this one before

It was made by the Backus Water Motor Company, Newark NJ, I found that they made water driven pumps to run sewing machines and all other kinds of devices back in the day, but I couldn't find anything on this one?

I thought it was a cool piece and I will probably repurpose it as a desk style lamp or something else?

Wow body putty and sanding, you and Don makes me want to give up my GJ card.
I guess the first two but the last is a mystery. Cool piece with the hand on it. If it was mine, I'd take the pivot piece off, bolt it to the bar with then add a hose and limit switch. Wah-lah, a Crown Royal dispenser. :beer2:

Man this must be my lucky week for picking up new items for DaBarn, I came across this old window and did some horse trading to get it 😎

I thought it was a great art piece/wall hanger

I was feeling good tonight, so I slipped out in the barn and broke out the buffer spending some time polishing up these three small vintage oilers.

Thanks for the complement! I knew you would like the new stuff I picked up, I wish you lived closer so you could visit my dad's place, he is in rough shape, so mom and dad are leaving the farm and moving into a condo in town, they have been collecting cool **** for over fifty years and it is all going to be sold in an auction! kinda sad about that

Really liking the hand tool whatever it is! Looks to be a bottle capper to me!

bugnut

I know its not a bottle capping machine, but I would love to know what it was used for

BF, your work bench looks great but now that you went with blue, I won’t be able to talk you out of your welding bench because it matches. 😩

Jay

Jay

Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to painting it orange :ROFLMAO:

What a cool window. Those oil cans turned out great too. They sure reflect nicely in the table top.

Tony WHat is that yellow thing under your stamp machine? I've never noticed it before.
Man is Da-Barn lookin good. I'd love to be your neighbor.
Now I'm inspired so I'm headed out to my shop to work for the rest of the day!!

The table looks great. I think the last photo from Newark new jersey is a hanger for a line shaft.

11-X4.jpg

Woodfor1

Your right! That makes perfect since now, looking at it upside down like this you can see how it hung from the ceiling and was a support for a line shaft, and the rectangle cup at the top of the shaft bracket was probably for oil or grease and the cup shaped bottom would catch the excess oil or grease drippings. it is a pretty ornate bracket.

Thanks for solving that mystery for me

That bench looks so good I would be afraid to even use it.

Rifleman

Yeah! my wife came out and looked at it and she said the same thing  :ROFLMAO:

It was a fun little project, I will probably throw down an old towel on top of it when I'm working on something

Don

Thanks for the kind words, the yellow thing under the stamp machine is on old Tokheim gas pump, I found it out behind a rural barn in my area, I made an offer on it and the guy was eager to let me take it home, I believe it was placed there by a local co-op for farmers to pump and keep track of their fuel usage, it has a meter and paper print out on the top, I hope to restore it some day with a cool theme, it had a Conoco logo on it at one time in the past.

Here's a link to it when I posted it before on my thread.

I spent some time yesterday working on the glass gas pump globe that I picked up recently, I'm making my first attempt at a two color decal on my vinyl cutter.

11-X4.jpg

I have the first color stencil placed, masked off and ready for some red paint.

12-X4.jpg

13-X4.jpg

It came out pretty good 😎 I let it sit in the sun for a long time yesterday to dry, I may try to get the black on it tonight if I have time? I'm helping my wife today, she wants to show her 68 VW beetle at the local fathers day car show here in town 🐞

14-X3.jpg

I want mine to look similar to this one.

Going to take a lot of masking tape for the black lines but we’ve seen you use three rolls just to paint 9 rivets.

Globe looks great!

Scott

I set my vinyl cutter up to cut the stencils for both colors, it made it really easy to mask off the second color, I posted pics of both stencils above.

I saved three roles of tape tonight :ROFLMAO:

Thanks, I use your thread and talent for inspiration
