BF, great job on the globe. With that vinyl cutter you are taking your game to new levels.

Thanks, I'm having fun using the vinyl cutter, I want to be able to use it to make stencils to paint the logos and not just add vinyl stickers to everything, but I'm still learning.

I spent Sunday with my wife at the local fathers day car show, she wanted to show her Volkswagen, it turned out to be a good day 😎

Went junking with the wife over the long holiday weekend and scored this cool old can

33-X4.jpg

34-X4.jpg

I also picked up four more license plates for my 50 state collection, I'm now down to only needing seven :)

03-X4.jpg

I finished up that old window I picked up a couple of weeks back, I scraped all of the old hardened caulk off and recaulked it with some clear silicone.

04-X4.jpg

05-X4.jpg

I hung the old window up, I may take it down and add some black poster board to the back so it shows up a little better

Art is all in eye of the beholder

I started working on a bench that I built some time back, I finally got the motivation to finish it. I started by changing out the casters.

02-X4.jpg

These casters look a lot better and its at a better working height

03-X4.jpg

I welded some angle iron on so I can add a bottom shelf to it.

04-X4.jpg

05-X4.jpg

I ripped down some 3/4" plywood for the work surfaces.

06-X4.jpg

07-X4.jpg

I clear coated the turn buckles.

08-X4.jpg

I polished the carriage bolts and clear coated them too.

09-X4.jpg

I got one coat of red paint on the 3/4" plywood.

10-X4.jpg

I painted the base today, I started by turning it upside down and shooting everything underneath.

12-X4.jpg

13-X4.jpg

11-X4.jpg

I will let it dry for a day or two, then I can put it back together :)

I finished my second rolling bench this week  now I'm ready to move on to next project

No more benches :ROFLMAO:

14-X4.jpg

15-X4.jpg

I rolled three coats of oil base paint onto the 3/4" plywood top and shelf and it turned out rougher than sandpaper, so I wet sanded both of them down and got out the HVLP gun a sprayed them, I used the oil base paint and just thinned it with some mineral spirits, I was real happy with the results

16-X4.jpg

It was a nice sunny day yesterday and the paint dried quickly, so I was able to assembly the bench last night, I'm real happy with it, kinda has that Milwaukee color scheme going on :ROFLMAO:

The globe did come out great. I haven’t tried two color yet. Too many projects to do before playing more with the printer.

On the window, yes something for the backside so it’s more readable. If you could find an old b/w photo of a shop or factory. Mount it off the glass an inch or two then it would look like an actual window.

Thanks, I was real happy with how it turned out, I will use it to put all my small power tools on, I will post a pick once I have them sitting on it.

That's a great idea for my old window, I think I will start looking for a old photo, hopefully I will be able to blow it up big enough to make it fit

If you’re looking for really old photos there are a few members who could send you their HS Graduation pictures.
I never graduated so that leaves me out.

Tony that new bench is killer with those turn buckles and big wheels. I paint everything with my HVLP spray guns. It's the only way I can get a good finish. I tried to rattle can the Pennzoil sign frame but went back to the spray gun after looking at the frame for a day.

I picked up a roll of rubber and cut two pieces for runners on the new bench, then I loaded it up tonight with tools :)

The bench came out great Tony.

Jim

Thanks, I was real happy with how it turned out, now I need to take on a smaller project next  :ROFLMAO:

It looks killer and fits right into your garage (SO CLEAN)
Are you going to glue the mat down??

Don

Thanks, I don't think I need to glue that rubber down, it laid pretty flat right out of the box

BF, looks like that new bench will work perfectly for the tools you have stored on it.
You did your usual excellent job making it.

Thanks, I'm glad I have a good place to organize all of those tools and it rolls really nice, making it easy to take it outside

I have a license plate update on my mission to collect one plate from all 50 states :)

I received this mint condition New Hampshire license from fellow Garage Journal member highland_hunter, how cool is that

On decals, remind me are these standard decals you buy or do you make?

Shorty

Thanks for the visit! I bought those decals, I have a vinyl cutter, not the vinyl printer. I can cut letters or make stencils for painting logos or whatever you can think up? but I have yet to learn everything my vinyl cutter can do but it sure is fun to play with, the vinyl cutter that is

Don

Thanks! that is a real complement coming from you, can't wait to see what Ann comes up with on her new vinyl cutter, hopefully she's not cutting out daisy's and wanting you to put them on your oil cans ;)

Love the work your doing on the El Camino

Tony,

Things are looking great in DaBarn! I'm super excited to see your plate collection when you get the last 4. I was browsing images for my fantasy football team and saw this and immediately thought of you man... Ditka was such a badass!

Beautiful work Tony, I love what you are doing and where you are finding your old can stock, pretty clever.

Jim

Thanks for the visit! With the price of vintage petroliana items going through the roof 💰 I decided to quit going to auctions and I will just start making things that I want for DaBarn, its more fun and a lot cheaper 🤔

Hope your feeling better now 🤒

Great work on those cans BF, great idea to make modern cans look vintage.
Those make great additions to DaBarn!

Thanks for checking in! I have found that I really enjoy working on those small can projects, I have several other cans in storage waiting for some love

Thanks for the picture reminder! Those were the good ole' days! Ditka was a badass, unlike Nagy, I'm sure glad to see that era over with, can't wait for the regular season to start next week, hoping for the best this year out of the Bears, couldn't get any worse than the Nagy years 🤪

Thanks for checking in! Go Bears!

Well I started on a new project last week, when I posted a picture of this propane tank that I picked up a while back no one made a guess of what I was going to make out of it?

Well I hope the NSA or FBI isn't monitoring "The Garage Journal", because I'm making a bomb! yes BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB,BOMB!!! 💣 💣 💣

01-X4.jpg

02-X4.jpg

03-X4.jpg

I started out by cutting the old base off the tank.

04-X4.jpg

I then cut the top off too, I'm trying to make it look authentic and this configuration would not work for my actual detonator setup 🤔

05-X4.jpg

Well that took a while and two cut off wheels :)

06-X4.jpg

I knew this thing was heavy, when I got the top cut off as you can see it was made of 1/2" thick steel, I'm going to have to add more explosives then I originally planned for o_O

07-X4.jpg

08-X4.jpg

I got started on the base, I went to my metal supplier Perry Yoder of Yoder and Son's in Topeka Indiana, I love this old guy, we talk politics and he is a real joker, he is probably close to 80 and still goes out in the shop everyday and works with his sons, I picked up some 1/8" steel for the base and while I was there I just had him roll one of the pieces that I need on this old Niagara roller, it ran quiet and smooth as butter.

09-X4.jpg

I have all the pieces laid out and ready to cut, I hope I have base proportionate to the size of the tank, I just guessed my way through it 🤔

10-X4.jpg

I have the fins tacked on

11-X4.jpg

I even got the spacing right the first time out o_O

12-X4.jpg

I have the base all tacked up and I finished welding it, I ran the tank and base up to another Amish man in Topeka that does custom sandblasting, he is real reasonable on his pricing, he has a lot of work lined up so it may be a few weeks before I get It back.

I'm enjoying working on the El camino but miss the gratification of the smaller quicker projects
