You have quite the imagination. That base looks great. should have sent it to me. I'd have blasted it for ya
I'm enjoying working on the El camino but miss the gratification of the smaller quicker projects

Don

Thanks for the visit! I would probably drive you crazy if I lived closer! I'd have old rusty **** in your sandblaster all the time :ROFLMAO:

On the other hand, I would love to help you out on the El Camino

Looking forward to the explosive news coming out of DaBarn. This will be a fun project.
💥💣
Jay

Jay

That's funny! just don't turn me into the FBI

I hear Richie Valenze singing!

Jim

That's a good one 🎙️

13-X4.jpg

Picked DaBomb up from the sandblaster Friday, it had a date of 6-35 at the top and 8-40, 9-49 lower down and made in Kansas City Missouri.

14-X4.jpg

Got the base and lift hooks welded on Saturday 💣

Now I need to work on the top detonator and safety pin, then I will need to give the entire bomb a coat of Rage body filler, it has a lot of pitting, maybe I need to call Don in to smooth out the bondo ;)

03-X4.jpg

We went to our local high school football game Friday night, it was military appreciation night, my granddaughter is on the varsity cheerleader squad, that's her on the top, she's one of the fliers. The color guard was there and fired off their rifles and the high school band played the national anthem, then we had a Black Hawk helicopter do a fly over, then it landed in our practice field and we were able to go check it out, it was piloted by two of our former high school graduates, then they fired it back up and done a second fly over at half time. We even kicked our local rivals *** in the football game, what a cool night

I recently picked up this odd little oil can with a pour spout sticking out, I have never seen one like this before?

I soaked it for about four hours in vinegar and used a scotch-brite pad to clean it up, then I ran a wire wheel over it to finish it off, I then tapped the high spots down and gave it a coat of bondo, after a bunch of hand sanding and a few coats of primer its ready for some paint, I just can't decide on what colors I'm going to use

Cool that the “new” project dates back to late 30’s. A conversation piece for sure. Since my dad dropped gifts in SE Asia, I should look at that style

Nice little oiler Tony
I see a couple of other nice cans off to the left there.
I'd gladly trade you labor if I could get help on the ?El camino

Don

Not being retired with a full time job is cutting into my hobby time o_O

I would have a blast helping you out on the El Camino, I would love to watch you paint and learn all your tricks

Looks like we need to start rounding up some frequent flier miles.

Scott

It wouldn't take LONG for me to go broke, flying to California! I really want to retire

Shorty

I did get a little time to work on DaBomb, but my damn day job is keeping me so busy, boy I really need to win that lotto 🤑

That's a nice, unique can!

Jim

Yeah, It really caught my eye when I saw it, I was glad I picked it up! now I just have to figure out what theme I want to paint it in

All my projects seem to come to a screeching halt when it comes to paint :ROFLMAO:

"I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" um I mean bondo

I got Dabomb outside and coated with Rage body filler and sanded down, I forgot to get a pic of it all smoothed out, I still need to find time to get it in primer.

I have spent a lot of time lately reorganizing DaBarn and my tools. I was looking for a different place to store some clamps so I made a clamp rack out of some 1" square tube and some 1/8" flat stock, I added it to my rolling bench with some 10-32 screws.

I got a little wild with the paint scheme

I had finished my Flying A sign last year about this time and had it sitting in primer on the barn floor ever since, I told my son I wanted to make sure the primer was dry :ROFLMAO:

I finally got around to painting it! I didn't have room to hang all the pieces up and paint both sides of them all at the same time, so I elected to paint the inside of the parts and then assemble it and then finishing painting it all together.

31-X4.jpg

All the pieces painted on the inside.

32-X4.jpg

Here I have it all assembled and I gave it a final wet sanding with 2000 grit.

33-X4.jpg

Got the red on, how you liking my make shift paint booth

34-X4.jpg

After it dried, I laid it out on some cardboard and wet sanded it again,

35-X4.jpg

I put it back in the paint booth and gave it a coat of clear

36-X4.jpg

Its all painted and sitting back in on the barn floor waiting for me to hang it up, I did go to town and pick up the hardware to hang it from the ceiling, now I have no more excuses :ROFLMAO:

I picked up this cool old vise, anvil and drill last week here off an old picker that found it in a local barn that needed torn down, I'm not sure of my plans for it just yet?

It has a patent date of September 22, 1914 on it, and is in good shape under all that rust.

Oh, I like that vise/anvil, very nice!

Jim

Thanks! I have never seen one that has the drill option on it, it is missing the handle for that, but it is freed up and appears to be in great condition

Cool updates!
I really like that Flying A sign!

Jon

Thanks for the visit! I finally have the sign completed. I let the damn thing sit way to long, now I need to get it hung :)

Sorry, about the "Bears" last night.
Nice Vise.

John

Yeah! looks like another LONG season for Bears Fans, I'm pretty sure I could coach the Bears better, couldn't get much worse 🏈 :ROFLMAO:

BF, great job on the Flying A sign and nice score on that unusual vise. Can’t wait to see it de-rusted!

Jay

Jay

Thanks for checking in! I want to make an anvil like stand for it and get it restored to its former glory...someday

Stand-X2.jpg

Flying A looks great, Tony.

The clamp rack turned out nice- but orange Jorgenson clamps would match DaBears color scheme... just sayin'.;)

Scott

Thanks a lot! you now have me scouring the internet looking for a good deal on Jorgensen clamps  o_O :ROFLMAO:

I certainly hope that having the dabomb in the dabarn does not lead to a daboom!

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

...or a visit from Da Feds.

 :ROFLMAO: o_O

Sign is looking great and that’s about the most interesting vise I’ve ever seen.

Shorty

Thanks for stopping in, I'm happy with the sign and how it turned out, now I'm ready to hang it, I have a fraction in this making it, versa going out and buying an original and it was way more fun :)

I was excited when I found the vise, I'm not to sure on where it will go in my restoration rotation (hey that rhymes). I need to finish DaBomb first.

Orange paint works pretty well, too. Half of these are the old-style HF knockoffs that were a carbon copy of the original Jorgensen clamps with hardwood handles. Bought a pile of them at a garage sale for a buck apiece when I lived in Spokane 20+ years ago. Got tired of looking at the different colors so one day when I was bored I masked and painted the HF clamps to match. (The genuine Jorgensen clamps are the ones with the rounded-end handles.) This rack is usually full- and I have another dozen or so on the other side of the garage.

Nothing too exciting went on in DaBarn this week, I really liked how my clamp storage bar turned out, so I went a head and made a second bar for the other side of the bench.

Its nice having these clamps all together in one spot now and it freed up an entire draw in my toolbox, so I got out my shadow foam and made good use of the empty draw

I did pick up a new toy, um I mean tool this week, got it on a flash sale through a Home Depot email for $159.00 with a battery included, I got to use it making my clamp bar on my rolling bench this week and I must say I love this Milwaukee Fuel 4" cordless grinder, a very nice addition to DaBarn, I like my 110 volt corded Milwaukee grinder, but its nice to just grab this and not worry about getting out a drop cord to plug it in, this thing is a beast!!! and I'm not sponsored by Milwaukee  🥺😩

Saw this sign on my local CL this morning - a little pricey but I think he's got your logo covered...

Tool org looking good!

floridafarmer

I would love to have that sign, a little pricey for me, I did see one like that before, it would look great in DaBarn

Justin

Thanks for the complement, I did spend some time this week cutting out some more shadow foam, this stuff is pretty fun to work with and it has really made me organize and eliminate a bunch of stuff I never use.

You know not much went on in DaBarn the last couple of weeks if I'm posting about tool organization :ROFLMAO:

I was contacted by a fellow Garage Journal member named vic m a couple of weeks ago and he said he had something that he wanted to send me for DaBarn, so I PM him my address, well it showed up and I was blown away, my favorite all time Chicago Bear player and person in general was Walter Payton. He sent me this shirt and an amazing letter with it, giving me the history behind the shirt

How cool is that!

Thanks a million Vic

My wife went to a craft bazaar yesterday, I never go to those things with her, but who knew that they have cool **** there? she bought me home a couple of cool vintage oil containers.

01-X4.jpg

I spent some time this morning cleaning them up and I added a decal to the pour spout can, they are both in great condition

02-X4.jpg

I had to take a couple of shots with some of my other oil bottles.

Tony - I'm happy that you like it. Like you, Walter was my favorite Bear. Better that this shirt is in Da Barn, surrounded by other Bear memorabilia, rather than hanging in my closet. Vic

Tony,
Your wife is for sure a keeper!

I was gifted with an angel

Thank you again, that was an awesome surprise

Tony I like the organization of your tools,,,,,,clears throat,
Peyton was the best he ran a place in Aurora called the round house, it was a high end restaurant in the old burlington RR round house. He was a class act.

Jim

Even though I have been a life long Bears Fan and Walter Payton was my favorite player, I respected him for the person he was and not just a sports hero

Nov%202022-X4.jpg

Nothing happened in DaBarn this past week, but we did have lake effect snow blow in with some unbelievable cold temps, damn its too early in November for this **** 🥶 ❄️

The angel that I call my wife, said last week that she had a surprise for me and I needed to be ready Friday night to leave the house by 5:00 sharp.

We drove to the War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne Indiana about 30 miles from the house, she got me tickets to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra, third row, isle seat almost center stage.

Wow, I have always wanted to see them.

Jim

It was pretty cool! a great surprise from my wife, with today's busy schedules, we don't always have time or energy for date nights.

This was my first time seeing them, I describe it as heavy metal Christmas songs as loud as any rock concert that I have ever been to, it had a story line, a video show, a laser light show and a pyrotechnics show all rolled into one.

It was sensory overload!!!

Thanks for checking in! as I sit here typing this its -9 degrees out with 25 mph winds and a -35 degree wind chill, damn! I want to move into the Big Party Garage for the rest of the winter o_O :ROFLMAO:

All is good my way, thank the good lord that me and my family are all in good health and spirits.

I have been incredibly busy with my day job, I do work off commission and I had an awesome year!!! November and December have been really good, so that has kept me out of the barn

I did go out and buy a truck load of vinyl flooring for the house, enough to do the whole house except for two of the bedrooms, so when we get our Christmas all finished and decorations down I'm starting the new flooring and trim project for the whole house, I may take some before and afters to post up on the Garage Journal, I have all kinds of projects out in DaBarn I would rather be working on :ROFLMAO:

Flooring-X4.jpg

Here's a pick of my Silverado in the Home Depot parking lot with two full skids of vinyl flooring weighing in around 2200 pounds, it squatted the ole' girl a bit
