Just what I have learned from my own personal experience. You would be amazed at the actions of some, even those close to you.

I'm going on 63 years old, so I've been around the block a few times & do know exactly what you're saying. I stopped being amazed long ago.
But I would never live by your blanket rules of trust concerning my family or friends because of the actions of a few bad apples. Such is life in regards to the bad apples out there.....we all run into them at some point in time. I just won't let the actions of a few determine my outlook on everyone. I guess that's where you & I differ.

This thread made me think about my own experience. I never really thought much about it before but my Dad is/was a home hobby woodworker who recently moved to a retirement facility. He had to get rid of his tools but never bothered to ask me if I wanted any of them. I was disappointed to say the least, but he does live in St. Louis while I'm in KC. My Dad and I have never been really close friends though.

At the same time, my own son isn't close to me either. The ex-wife ran off with a married man, then they got married and moved to Texas somewhere. Now my own son thinks I'm the jerk for "abandoning" him. No way I can tell him his mother is a ***** though. :) So any tools I have will likely go to nieces and nephews but none are really mechanically inclined. Even worse is that they wouldn't have a clue of any tools' values if they tried to sell them.

And the saga continues, "As the world turns." (a reference to a daytime soap opera)

When I worked in a sawmill as a young guy, I use to say....; "As the Wood Burns..."

You know Steve, only you & God have the power to change things....and its best done with Love.

Every step of the way-Love. Don't dish your ex-wife, forgive her, and move on. If you can't have a relationship with you Son, at least forgive all, its too much to carry.
I hope God is with you, and makes some changes in Yours, and their Lives.
Be Well I can feel the pain in your reply.

When my grandfather died, my uncles told me to go through his tool box and take whatever I wanted. His box was full of Snap on, SK, Proto, and, of course, Craftsman.

I never knew my grandfather had such great taste in tools. :D

My grandfather (moms dad)died in an accident when I was 2. Most of his shop equipment was sold after his death but his toolbox was finally gave to my dad. Ive sorted through it a few times and removed the broken tools. The box is now at my house with my home tools mixed in with whats left of grandpas tools. My dad has just the basics in tools but they will find home in my garage when the time comes

I dont think my dad had one good tool.I scraped all of them for metal. He did have a very large bucket of "bent nails".
I was left hundreds of thousands of dollars but would gladly trade it back to hold my POP one more time .

" I love you dad and miss you every day " Thanks for being my POP.

The other day I went to my parents house to borrow a special tool that I knew my father had only to find to my horror that he had decided to "minimize and reduce". He had selected just the basics and then donated the rest to the local thrift store! Fortunately he saved a few of the old tools from when he had his shop back in the 60's many of which came with him from England during his apprenticeship. However, many of the tools I grew up with including his old Craftsman top and bottom boxes are gone. I hope they have gone to someone who will appreciate them but I believe who ever you are you have earned the GJ YOU **** award.

Where in England is your dad from?
