I went last night after debated for a week or two and bought the 26" single bank roller cabinet. I couldn't decide between that and the 14.5" end cabinet; the purpose is mainly to use as a base for my new Wen drill press. The end cabinet is almost the perfect size, but I'd have to add casters and since I also plan to put anything drilling related in that box I figured that I'd wish I had the bigger one in short order as I always do.

I go in with my 25%, no exclusions coupon that was expiring yesterday, make said purchase and the guy at the store helps me load it (all 200 lbs worth) in the Jeep. Bring it home, start to unbox it and something is askew... literally. Shoulda taken a picture but I boxed it back up... I don't know if it was dropped off the boat that it came over on or used to prop up a corner of the gantry crane that unloaded the ship but what should have been a rectangular box was more of a trapezoid. Sheet metal was torn in the corners, the top two drawers would open but the others were too badly warped.

You'd think that kind of damage would have been apparent but the box didn't show it at all. The styrofoam inside on top of the box was crushed but the exterior looked fine.

So back to the store to exchange, seems like it will be easy enough from the phone call...

They did indeed, my wife and kiddo exchanged it for me as I couldn't get free from work until later. I figured they would, have always heard good things in that regard but I'd hoped I wouldn't be one of them. Sure enough when I opened it last night I had a leaning tower of toolbox... much better today.

Sounds like my luck with delivered appliances from Lowes. Took two tries to get a stove and a 'fridge that weren't bent out of shape. And my son got a dinged up washing machine, but kept it because waiting on the delivery was a PITA.

I've had this issue 3 times with Craftsman boxes 10+ years ago. After the third time (yeah, I catch on fast :D) I started unboxing them in the back of my truck in the parking lot- and of course never had an issue then. I also had a damaged a water heater from Home Depot; took three tries to get a good one. After the first bad one that I brought home, I unboxed them outside the front of the store with the HD employee.

I bought a hanging garage lamp at HF. Got it home. DOA.

went back and exchanged it. I asked If I could plug it in to see if it worked prior to leaving and they let me. That one was ok.

Remember, the probability of getting something damaged or DOA increases in exponential proportion with the distance you had to travel to get it.

Get on the mailing list and don't buy anything for a year or so. or more...

Got the same coupon last Dec and bought the same box! Out the door for $270.29 I think it was like a We Miss You Coupon deal.

He should at least threaten to return it and work out a discount. They will do it, as they don’t want the time, effort, and expense of trading it back out to get something they have to discount to sell again. I had to do that with a gas stove. The discount was substantial, about $700, I think. I have to ask my wife. Every day is a new day for me.
