Hey guys my dads birthday is next week and I wanna get him an oscillating multi tool. I saw a fair deal on the sears 2.0 amp one and wanted to see what your opinions are. The website reviews lean toward it being a well designed and well built tool. But of course there's a few negative reviews about how the motor dies after a week or so. Just wanted to see if anyone has some input or experience of it.

Thanks guys

I have one of the earlier Rockwell's. IDK how the new ones are, but the first run from 5-8 years ago held up well for the contractors that I spoke to, mine is still going strong.

I've heard mixed reviews about the HF models. I suppose it depends on how hard you work them.

IDK about the Craftsman's. I haven't run into them.

Don't bother with the Dremel branded one. It barely holds up to hobby work. It won't last in a shop.

Fein (the original) is great, but not worth the expense IMHO.

As always YMMV.

Haven't done too much shopping around. A few more details are moneys pretty tight at the moment trying to pay off my truck and I just got layed off one of my two jobs. My dad is just a DIY guy house is pretty new so it won't see an insane amount of work it's more or less for him to show off and brag about like most of his tools lol. Not to mention my moms birthday is 2 days after his and I got her a few of those Alex and Ani bracelets that are the new fashion :)
