I need to sell off Dad’s garage items. I don’t know where to begin. 30x30 garage, 2 plus floors. Most guys drool when they check it out. Most stuff is older. Tools: hand, power, Huge like a lathe, drill press, engines, outboards, fiberglass, He was a hoarder!
I don’t know where to begin or how to do it. Estate auctions don’t seem to care about fair pricing or even what the item may be.
Can anyone advise?

Start taking pictures and listing items in the classifieds here for items you know what they are and what they are worth. For items that you have no idea, I think you could show pictures in a section not in the classifieds and folks who know will give you an idea. This will obviously be a huge time investment, but will maximize the money you get for things. Estate sale would be the other end of the spectrum: minimal time investment and minimal returns.

Auctions are a sure bet to make sure it all goes. Some will get great prices, some not so much. But that depends on the weather, auctioneer, crowd, location, time, etc.

I am in the same boat. Dad died three years ago. We are paralyzed. I work a fulltime job, a second job 20 hours per week, commute 3 hours, have a horse and an elderly mother. I don't have time to research and look and list. It probably will all go in the garbage.

My advise finding an auctioneer or an auction house that specializes in tools and hardware. They'll come out and look at it then either haull it to their auction house or if there is enough room and enough stuff set up right there for an auction.. They will tell you up front how much % they will charge after they see it. If you decide to go that route do NOT let anyone comein beforehand and cherry pick your good stuff. Most of these auctioneers have a following and you'll get a fair price. The desirable items will draw a crowd and raise the price of the not so desirable stuff. My father was somewhat of a hoarder and it took 5 auctions to get rid of his stuff. PM me if you would like more info . Good luck
