Dad's old box

Okay, just let me know when you guys are getting sick of me posting these old tools and I'll stop. I don't want to wear out my welcome.

Here is the old box that I want to restore. There is a tag on it though it has been painted over. Anyone have an idea how to remove the green paint without damaging the tag itself?

I wonder if that box would be a good condidate for a hot tank? If you want the paint off the tag; how about traditional paint remover... usually that will bubble things off quickly and paint comes off easliy..

Aircraft paint remover will work.

wire weel, some sanding, and a hammertone paint will make it beautiful in no time.

I stripped cheap paint off of 2-foot oval "AAA-Approved" sign using noting but really hot water, and an SOS pad.
The water lifted the paint off in sheets. The SOS pad is self-lubricating, and really didn't scratch the enamel on the sign.
On other old signs, etc., though, I have worn through with the SOS pad, so use it sparingly if you use it.

I wouldn't use anything abrasive on the tag. Just a paint stripper liquid.

If you decide to use a wire wheel, use a fine brass one, not steel.
