Hello the forum!! Newbie here from the Great Smoky Mtns of Western N. Carolina. Been a lurker for a bit. I just recently retired from being a machinist/toolmaker and decided to restore my Dad’s (passed) old Wilton 3 1/2” bullet style vise. 1962 on the slide guide. I hope the picture loaded and I would hope Dad would approve!! Semper-fi & This We’ll Defend, Mike

Lookin' good! 1962. Close to 60 years is nuthin' for these old babies. That vise will be passed down to your kids, or even your grandkids.

Well done, Mike. And welcome.

Now that we've got the formalities out of the way...., who made the speed wrench on top of that box in the background? It has a uniquely 'S' curvy swing arm as opposed to the sharper angles you normally see.

Thanks for the kind words. Lugz, in regards to the radius-handle whip-socket wrench…my Dad made things that I’m still finding too this day!! The whip-socket has his hand all over it, so I figured he made it. He was a toolmaker who started out as an apprentice, scraping ways. He grew up in the Great Depression and didn’t know the word “scrap”. When we needed a tool, we made it.He went into the Marine Corp and served in the South Pacific during WW11. I followed in his footsteps. I have a Wilton Cadet 8135 3 1/2” that was purchased without a swivel base that I’ll have to reproduce if I can’t find one. I guess if Pop was still here, he’d be looking over my shoulder, telling me what to do next!! I do miss him so. Enough of my rambling!! Semper-fi & This We’ll Defend, Mike

Yes, excellent resto!

I'd love to hear about your exploits as a life long machinist and tool maker. I'm sure there are many others here who would like to hear those stories as well.
