Great workshop. It looks to have a good layout with some room to grow. The one thing that I would change is to get the grinders out of the metal shop. Grinder dust and machines with 'ways' do not mix. The dust will soon take all the precision out of the mill and lathe. I would suggest moving them out into the welding area.

The missing riser looks funny. How about a hinged or removable one?

If the missing riser bothered you that would certainly be an option. We like the ease of use by just being able to slide a board in and be ready to go. That saw gets a lot of use and if the riser was removable/hinged it would probably be left out or open.

You would think that it has plenty of space but after using the shop for a few years we are talking about a small (~200 ft2) expansion for some new tools.

The grinders are pretty much only used for sharpening tooling for the lathe/mill and probably get used less than 1 hr/year. They act more like tool post grinders than anything and due to convenience they will probably stay where they are. We also keep the metal tools clean (remove the shavings and don't let fluids sit around) which should reduce the wear rate.

Great looking shop.

How large is that metal room?

The metal shop is approximately 11'x20'

Here are the new toys we just picked up for the shop. I will be putting up restoration threads when we get started.

The green grinder in the background and another that is stored outside are for parts.

I am reading through pertinent threads as I find them on Vintage Machinery and Practical Machinist but if anyone knows of a particular thread/webpage that has some good info on restoring these machines it would be appreciated.

Quite an expansion project. I've always found what I need on Practical Machinist including how to properly remove rust, refinish, etc. as well as replacement part resources, how to adjust, etc. There is a wealth of information and people on there willing to help..
