My dad's health is poor so I moved him into our house, cleaned out his and sold his home. I had a short time to clean it out so just grabbed anything that looked worth keeping and actually sold the house "as is" with a bunch of good furniture, the silverware and cooking utensils, lawn mower snow blower and t ton of junk!
My thing is I had a chance to go through the tools. He had a partial set of Craftsman wrenches from the early 60's some random S-K sockets, a set of no-name import combination end wrenches in a BucketBoss canvas roll, (the canvas roll is probably worth more that hthe wrenches!), and a small selection of odds and ends, plus a beat up small beat up tools box. He had a few power tools that I kept. I have a tough time deciding what to do with the few hand tools I mentioned. I don't want them, I don't have anyone to give them to, and I know a pawn shop might give me $50 if I am lucky. I could Facebook or eBay them, but it is hardly worth my time.

Anyone have any good ideas what to do with them?

Know anyone who works at a trade school or some young kid who wants to be a mechanic?

You must know some young farmers 8 to 12 years old who monkey around in dads shop hand them down only good can come from it.
No on both points.

I would give them to my nephew, but he would just run them over to the pawn shop. A couple years ago my dad gave the kid a nice watch, it was at the pawn shop before my dad got home.

The only young farmers know their dad has a huge farm shop and a Snap-On addiction. They certainly don't want my dad's old Craftsman tools.

It will all most likely end up at the pawn shop.

List them for sale on GJ for a few weeks? I have a few missing Craftsman sockets and wrenches, but shipping is a killer these days.

Just eBay it. Someone will want them. Better then a Pawn Shop. Good on you for preventing it from being “wasted” by giving it to an unappreciative relative.

Pile them into a toolbox and put them up on a shelf in a corner of the garage. You may change your mind on their value to you in 10 years time.
Thanks, but I don't want to deal with selling pieces individually. eBay or Facebook is probably the best, but I might go the pawn shop route for the ease of it. A few dollars either way will not make a difference. They just need to go away.

No way I will keep them, they didn't mean anything to my dad, they don't mean anything to me either.

I was just wondering if I was missing something obvious.

Just donate them the next time you donate to Salvation Army or whoever you donate to or take whatever the pawnshop offers.

take them to church on a Sunday after talking to the pastor. Put them on a table at the church for free will donation to the church if so desired. The tools get a good home and the man upstairs might pat you on the back.

I would go to the local high school and donate them to their auto shop. I have been saving a huge batch of unneeded tools I got after my uncle passed a few years ago plus some of my own. My 15 year old son starts 10th grade next week and has both machine shop and beginning auto shop classes. Once he gets settled I'll go in and talk to the instructors and see what they need. When I say huge batch I'm talking 200-300 sockets, 75-100 wrenches and similar amounts of screwdrivers and hex keys plus dozens of pliers, ratchets etc.

I’ve had a lot of luck on eBay for tools I don’t want. There’s not much hassle to it.

You’d get a lot more on eBay the SK and Craftsman will bring big bucks because some people are willing to pay it. Especially from the 60s. Personally I’d keep them even if they didn’t mean anything but I say that as a person with over 2,000 sockets and probably at least 400-500 wrenches lol. Tools will always be useful. Just my opinion. Around here the pawn shops I go to tell me they pay almost nothing for tools and sell them for almost nothing. But it might be worth checking especially if you have one around that specializes in tools or something.
