Motivation, need some motivation ;) y'all will hold me accountable right?

Working on building a portfolio, of pegboard accessories. Most will be 3d printed, some files will be free, some not so much. Depends on hours and # of iterations and how my filament budget looks :)

https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/home/pegboard-gluestick-sharpie-mount

Today I bring you a gluestick and sharpie holder. Highly valuable tools on my work bench. Very irritating when it took me an hour today to locate them.

Tomorrows design is printing right now, very different than normal choice for me...

If you guys have requests, let me know, And be prepared to help with dimensions pictures etc. I would love some requests, I have a pretty narrow focus so it's nice to get someone to make me think outside my box.

Nice to have access to a 3d printer! I would angle the marker holders out 10-15 degrees to make grabbing them easier.

Since they're taller, I wasn't worried about the spacing. My OCD tendencies wouldn't like that.

3d printing is definitely a game changer for a lot of things. Fantastic tool for certain tasks.

Still not exactly plug and play in any way yet. Guessing that's going to be a ways off yet.

Todays was inspired by seeing all the pegboard crafters on IG, common thread was the pictures, but the pictures weren't exactly included in the pegboard system - always an afterthought, taped on, glued on, on a shelf, anything but mounted in a pegboard solution!

So here we go - designed to look like the adhesive corners my grandmother used in her old photo albums and scrapbooks. But designed as standard peg mount.

Today's will be coming a bit later... Had a 7mm oops and then a printer issue overnight. So no verification or pics yet.

But here's the sneak peak

Neat stuff! I don't do any 3D printing. Have you considered offering any of your items for sale? I bet others here may be interested, too. I'd also like to see stuff that doesn't necessarily have to be used on pegboard, too. Maybe with countersunk screw holes or even magnet mounting?

Many of them are on my Etsy page (MFWIC3D) I won't link as I think that's probably against the rules.

I could totally replace the pegs with 1/4" holes if someone wanted. Keep the mounting bracket just with holes instead of pegs

Thanks, I hope so. The oil economy around here has been a problem for too many years it was time to make changes...

AndyL , welcome back, been a long time.

Linking the other site may be frowned upon, but you could start a thread in the classified section to sell your peg board solutions.

One thought on the Sharpie holder. I believe they are supposed to be stored cap down to help keep them from drying out.

Eric yup feels like 2 bad relationships ago... Oh yeah, it has been. Lol

I have been pondering the classifieds. Would like a bigger base of ideas to offer first. Working on a proper website, just slow progress as I'm no coder anymore.

I think I'll do a proper holder for 6-8 this one was just what I needed when I started this. The sharpies never get a chance to dry out before they're used up...

I'll be watching this thread Andy to see what you come up with next.

Can you incorporate a carpenters pencil holder in with the Sharpies ?

Nuttsgt: about like so? I'm leaning towards 2 pencils, one behind the second row (front bottom) and one above my bracket?

I've got a 1/8" variance between my carpentry pencils here... Home depot isn't the same as rona isn't the same as the green one I grabbed off a jobsite years ago...

@dshop see the problem there is other things get dumped into those cans and then you have to unscrew them to fix that, then the contents get dumped on the workbench, and never cleaned up, and you lost the effin screw and then the wife called you to dinner and... 2 years later the can is still on the workbench along with the contents that didn't belong :lol_hitti

Been there done that got the Tshirt

That is exactly what I have been hunting for - any chance I could send you a few Canuck Bucks to drop one of those in the mail for me to BC?

Cheers

These are cool ideas!
I can't say I have used the Elmers glue ever in my garage, I am curious what you use it for?
But your angled marker/mechanical pencil idea is a great idea.
I could see the same idea using a small Super Glue (oval shaped base) or even the small Titebond wood glue bottle size?

The glue sticks - on my 3d printers. I'm always working in PETG, which sometimes sticks too well to the glass.

Meaning you peel hunks of glass off with the part. So it's sort of used as an adhesion promoter (the texture can help stick at times) but also as a sacrificial layer or worst case a soak the glass in the sink so the part comes loose layer. Some use aquanet hairspray, the glue stick just happens to be easiest and cheapest option for me to date

Thanks for the explanation. I started using spray adhesive last year for a template I was cutting. Now I seen to find 100s of uses for the stuff to temporarily hold things, LOL

Remember the days when drawing to prototype took weeks?

Although I do miss my french curves, they're still easier than cad 98% of the time ;)

Slot for carpenters pencil up top, open space below (12mm tall, carpenters pencil is ~13mm/1/2" so would have to lean slightly) but open allow for pens regular pencils, that 6th sharpie in your 6 pack to also fit.

Eric - leave the pencil channel on top or take it off? Pencil has a ledge there either way, getting it in there may be challenging...

You can leave the channel off, I'd guess a carpenters pencil will lay flat and maybe stack a couple on top of each other.

Will a regular pencil fit in the black "X" ?

Yes pencil or pen fits there nice, almost takes a sharpie but missed it by -><- that much.

I'm going to zip down to the post office tomorrow and try to make heads or tails out of their rates. Swear their shipping calculators are broken.

Damnit now you got me thinking about how you could "sink" rare earth magnets in the back of the things to attach them to tool boxes and metal cabinet doors.
Lol

Unfortunately spent all day yesterday in family court so I was going to be missing a day. But I think I can fix that by releasing a pair today, I was going to do a screw mount base, adding a magnet version wouldn't be a challenge just needs a trip to princess Auto (canadas version of harbour freight) to see what magnets they have...

You got me hooked. I don't have a printer or even like peg board but here I am looking for today's widget.

If you have suggestions about something you'd like - I am all ears.

I was going to do a 1/4" socket holder next.
And a fiskars scissor holder - so they hang perpendicular to the wall as it was a request from a crafty lady who has bought some pegboard stuff and her peave was having to give up all that space to each hook/scissor combo

Can you print right on top of a magnet and have it embedded?

Maybe a Bluetooth speaker holder? Beer holder?

Can holder, haven't done but yes easy - which BT speaker? There's thousands and that becomes the headache.

There is a way to embed the magnets, to date I've never tried, I make the hole tight, freeze the magnet warm the plastic part then liberally add cyanoacrylate as backup.

That's the plan, got a little sidetracked with the printer mount that required more rework than expected and prep for yesterday's fun day in court...

What cad program is used for something like this? Seems like the printers are fairly cheep to get into but never using CAD before would make me hesitate on buying a printer. How easy is the software to use or learn?

I'm using fusion 360, some like sketchup, tinkercad online is free. Most 3d cad software can kick out an obj or STL file for the printers.

Printing isn't plug and play yet there's a fair learning curve there alone But there's tons already on thingiverse that you can download and print

I was directed here by another member reading my thread on 3D printed tool organizers.

Nice work. I have printing organizers for my toolbox, but had not yet considered pegboard mounted printed parts. Now you've got me thinking of a few new projects.

I also like the suggestions to glue a neodymium magnet into the back of a printed part to mount on my toolbox. Adding this one to the to do list as well.

Here's my thread if you want to give it a look. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412703

Yep I've been following along as a lurker ;)

Pegboards are great, it took me a while to figure the secrets out, I think I've printed half of the designs on thingiverse, and found all the mistakes the hard way lol.

Biggest part of this is splitting the pegs off the working piece, so you can actually mount it without wierd radiuses involved. Oh and printing the peg sections solid (all top layers)
