what DSL modem do you have, it might have wireless abilities as well?

Not attempting to hijack but I think this topic would help my issue.
My router and DSL modem are in the basement and our wireless signal is pitiful on the back porch. I can easily get a cat5 cable to my garage since I ran extra conduits so what do I need to buy and put in my garage (it's only 40' away from my patio) to get my wireless network stronger in the garage/backyard.

The easiest solution is to move the wireless router to a 'higher' location, such as an upstairs room or closet. You'd have to run a telephone or Cat-5e cable (depending if you have to move the modem also) but it is easily doable.
A second option is a WiFi extender, they cost about $80-100, BJs had one in their email flyer the other day.

Yup. Just plug the 2nd router into one of the lan ports, not the wan port. Both of my wireless routers are hooked up thar way, works great. Main router is a linux firewall hooked up to a 100bt switch.
My setup has me roaming in the house: both wireless routers (access points only now) are on same ssid/password but different channels (no overlap). Wireless devices now seamlessly roam between the two.

It may not be as bad as you think... Then again, until you try you won't know--years of experience has taught me that RF is not predictable!
