It's ok MWT, there are many that still believe Elvis is alive and kicking.

Why would STB have all those pictures of damaged boxes on their website, if there was not a issue with their delivery company.
My opinion is they should have a better trucking company that is more careful with their deliveries and the drivers should have time to wait. If it takes a hour to unwarp 3 boxes, so be it.
But then the cost of the boxes would be the same as Home Depot or more.
FIRST
Order the box and pay the extra to have it shipped to your home or business to alleviate dealing with the terminal.
NEXT
Sit back and partake in whatever it is you do to relax until the box arrives.
AND FINALLY
Inspect it thoroughly prior to signing as indicated on both the shipping packaging and the shippers website and then get crazy giddy about your new toolbox!

What type of discount would You receive if picking the box up in person? It may be worth the trip.
This is a interesting thread.
A man from Pennsylvania "MCM1" is going to give $2,000 to a Florida company. "STB" which in turn hires the cheapest trucking company they can find Fedex, to pick up a tool box in Illinois and deliver it to Pa
STB wants MCM1 to inspect the boxes because they are made in China and there might be shipping damage and nobody from STB actually looks at the Extreme boxes they sell.
The catch is Fedex doesn't want the MCM1 to open the crates, because its against company rules and he is thinking about resorting to bribing the driver to look the other way.
I am shaking my head "SMH"
MCM1
I'd encourage you to reconsider your decision to buy the Extreme box and consider Proto. They are made at the MAC tool box facility in Georgetown Ohio. They cost a little more but I think their quality is worth it. Some of the Proto boxes are Macsimiser boxes in Proto trim at half the cost. You would either order it from a local industrial supply or order it direct from an online industrial supplier.

Up here Fedex drivers are always in a hurry. You barely have time to sign your name and they are in their truck and gone. They are efficient though. Some machinery companies have next day parts availability through Fedex Air
Fedex Freight don't have as tight as schedule, not much inside the truck in the middle of the day, their drivers speaks good english. There are in fact cheaper freight companies, (just look at the appearance of their trucks) not on time, and they are always in a hurry to be out of there. In fact I would not ask for it to be shipped with anything BUT fedex.
There is a little defaming of fedex and definitely defaming STB here.
Shipping 12 hours away, with fedex is probably a very good chance he will get his box in perfect condition.
But, the OP is just going to believe what he is going to.
I would not do business with that type of outfit
I called fedex and spoke with a supervisor he told me no inspection without first signing,
STB say's you must inspect or they won't cover the damage.
I said I was not bashing either company if you read the whole thread, just putting the facts out there that this is the policy. I called STB and they told me they insist on an inspection but can't make fedex change policy.
I know many tool boxes are shipped without damage but some are not(fact).
Call fedex- their policy is NO INSPECTION WITHOUT FIRST SIGNING!
The thread title was carefully chosen to bring light to this crazy shipping policy!!!
I picked the extreme 5621cr because it fits my needs, I looked for weeks and did my homework. I need 20'' depth and 56 width.
This box hopefully will never be scratched, it is my home/business garage and I am the only user with slight OCD.
Ya know. You are so convinced you are going to get a damaged box, IT WILL HAPPEN. No matter what the outcome you are the type of person that will never be happy and in the event there is even the slightest imperfection you're going to make a huge deal out of it.
You're not going to win dude, give it up now and save everyone a world of grief.
I've not seen anyone mention FedEx's concealed damage claim form.
http://images.fedex.com/us/freight/pdf/claimlossdamage.pdf
So, if I'm reading this right, signing the delivery receipt doesn't mean that you have to live with concealed damages - if there is any, that is.
So, bottom line, both the seller and shipper have a process in place to accept responsibility for damages incurred during shipment.
What was the question again?
Yes because it already did happen before, you are missing the point if a proper inspection was allowed it would avoid concealed damage.
I'm not the one missing the point here.
You don't want to spend the money to protect yourself going with a different shipping company and feel entitled to not having to spend the extra money to do so.
A few of us who take many deliveries a week/per day have explained to you that you can inspect prior to signing. I did it a half dozen times today alone. (one truck was a FedEx truck!) truck drivers are used to it. Just wait until it gets to your house, inspect and then sign. What can they possibly do to you if you don't sign first? If you need I will be happy to take a picture of me inspecting prior to signing. I have turned down loads that once I opened up saw damage.I called fedex and spoke with a supervisor he told me no inspection without first signing,

After 112 posts, I'm convinced that the OP has no intention of ordering an Extreme Toolbox...from anyone.
I wish we could combine this with the thread about $14 worth of 3/4" Chinese pipe fittings.
The sky is falling...![]()
Let me throw another 'What if' into the mix...I noticed in the photo on post #55 the "MADE IN CHINA" in bold black print. If the seller has not inspected each box prior to shipping it to you, then what's to say it wasn't damaged at the manufacturer prior to shipping?
You could receive a pristine looking shipment, only to have a damaged box hiding within...now who's fault is it?
ok don't want to fight with anyone GJ is awesome super helpful and vast knowledge that's why I am here.
Maybe I can hire my own shipper, I am not looking for the cheapest.
I offered to pay 300.00 to do a full wood crate around the box.
I just think you should ...
order box...inspect box... sign... that's all nothing more nothing less,
Well said!!!
My thoughts exactly!!!!!

Yes I know home depot sells them but then it's around 350.00 more.
I am thinking about having it shipped to the house offer the driver a cash tip to let me inspect it or just send it back and stop payment on cc.
This is not how I want to do this, waiting till it is at my door only to send it back.
It just seems there should be a better way for all parties involved.
Like I said before home depot sells the extreme 5621cr but it's 355.00 more that is 17.8% increase in price, Let's face it home depot employees are not the most careful when it comes to moving stuff.
Why can't we just inspect what we are paying for? and if we can't why are we then responsible for the unseen damage?
Charge a little more 100.00?

So pay 300 extra for a crate plus extra weight is better than pay 355 for going to the box store.
Ok.
I can see where credibilty and reason takes a back seat to fears and speculation. Beats just making the deal happen.
