Just received a husky tool box and found that the back corner and side are smashed in a decent amount. Would you accept this? Home Depot basically said if it doesn't impact the drawers opening and closing then they don't see a need to send me a new one.

Damaged on arrival - replace

.... product not as described. Tell them you do not see a need to pay for it (if they try to back out, call your credit card)...

That's not how the item is designed to look, therefore its considered damaged. If you dont like it return it for a new one

That response would likely make me push for the return/refund/exchange.

+1
he be eating that box and any chance of cash rebate solution just tripled .

Nothing worse than retailers stiffing you, they responsible for shipping and goods should be received in good order .
I sure don't want pay full price for damaged new goods, would you go buy a brand new truck with tailgate already dented up . I wouldn't even buy a can of soup at full price if dented badly ...

My thoughts exactly, had they not been ****** about it I mights had been able to over look it if they took off some money but not after they pretty much said piss off. I’d tell them you want a replacement due being delivered in “not as described state” and if they don’t bother then your credit card company will take care of them

I would keep the box, but request a 50/60% discount and settle for 40%.
Then insert a 2x4 in the corner whack it with a hammer and remove the dent. Like new!

I think HD and Lowes deal with this a lot because the forklift operators are careless (to say the least).

I just bought a new box from Lowes, it was so dented on the top that the lock would not operate. Back on the truck, exchange for another one. The guy helping me said "this happens all the time".

Still, new is new, not dented.

They did not hassle me on the return, but it was an extra trip, gas, waiting, etc. It has to cost them a lot of money.

I picked up a cosmetically damaged Craftsman box from Lowe’s Friday. Outer vertical rear box beam had a dent, but it functions perfectly. Regular price $269; on sale $189 or $199, can’t remember, got it for $150, without haggling.

Not the greatest deal, but seemed fair to me. The box is stored against the wall, so I can’t see the damage anyway. Equivalent HF box was $299 with a coupon, but was a little deeper, which I didn’t want, considering how small the garage is here in Arizona.

Get a discount, or they replace it IMO. You paid $X to receive a box similar to a picture/display; which I highly doubt had a big ol' crimp in the back panel.

I went thru this a couple of years ago. I bought two small boxes and they both arrived at my house damaged. So I had to load them up and take them to HD for return. They didn’t give me a hard time and ordered a replacement set which I had sent to the store. Set 2 was in better shape but still damaged and they wouldn’t give any discount. They gave me a refund and i walked away leaving a very large mess in the front of the store with all of the packing materials from two tool boxes plus the boxes themselves. Oh well.

Big discount or replace it.
But then because of the response I would talk to a manager and tell them they can refund me and have it back. That response was BS

I can't tell from the photo if the metal is actually creased. If it is, that's going to be a weak spot and likely to fail in the future.

As far as returns go, I would contact the corporate HQ directly, the store has had its chance and screwed it up royally.

Picked up in the store, its Home Depots fault. If it was delivered, its like any other box trucked around the country side and dropped off at your house. Its always the carriers fault for damage.

Alll these boxes are packed in to a container in China and unloaded at some warehouse and then further handled. Who knows where the damage occurred but it is definitely not the customers fault or problem

Home Depot, Fedex or Amazon have a little more money than the rest of us

You missed my point. Costs incurred from damaged product don't just get magically absorbed by corporate. They gladly make up those costs by upping prices for consumers on other products...

A few years back; the Home Depot in Bemidji, Mn received a shipment of large tool boxes with various amounts of damage; with some being crushed beyond use.. The fellow who unboxed them said the reinforced cardboard boxes they were shipped in were not creased or mutilated or smashed as all. The concealed damage was a shocker. My guess is that a shipping container was dropped ..
