Darwin will catch up sooner or later.

Another questionable (but not as abd as a pry bar) way of compressing a spring is using the weight of the vehicle and a jack. Once the spring enclosure is open you can slowly release the compression by releasing the pressure of the jack. Please note this should not be done.

As much fun as it is to rag on this guy, I'm thinking I did something about as stupid taking the coil springs in and out of a 68 Camaro. I do recall at least being VERY sure not to be in the likely flight path if something went wrong.

Nice thing about HF tools, doing stuff like that never enters your mind.

Great! Funny stuff man.

Regarding the coil spring being removed w a pry bar.... those things are like missles. I used some dumb techniques in my younger years but a spring compressor is the only way to go.... ****, even after they're compressed I'm edgy.

if you were using a macpherson strut compressor tool and the only use for the prybar was to pry the lower end of the strut out of the knuckle then it would be a valid warranty but since you insterted your prybar in and lowered the vehicle onto a block of wood you completely did it the wrong unsafe way which concluded in breaking your tool as of misuse.

you may be able to warranty it on any of the tool trucks that sell it (cornwell?) but if it looks like misuse throw it in the trash

If the bar broke yes they will take it back.

To all the people who are blasting this guy for using a pry bar as a pry bar i say this:

There are better tools for doing the job but many times if you don't have the exact right tool you improvise. I've done some really radical stuff at the time I was doing something when I didn't have the exact right tool at the moment. Sometimes the tool wasn't available local or the tool truck didn't have it and you don't want to see the job go to another shop. It's a common thing with real auto technicians and the reason so many technicians Invent tools to do the job. Sometimes we invent that tool because we got injured or near injured at one point. If you are any kind of tech at all you never let having the right tool stop you from getting the job done. Personally I install a lot of coil springs with a prybar because iit's fast. I do however use a saftey chain in case it decides to achive flight.
Oop... my mistake.

Your table is right that way--just follow the flying spring.

Sometimes a spring compressor won't work. You have to find a way or have it towed to somebody willing to do it. Note" I said I use a safty chain.
