Damn Sears games...

Was looking at impact sets available at Sears and was looking at this one: 48 piece set

24 metric, 24 inch, and 3 "bonus" extensions for $180.

Except that it is out of stock...

Then I notice that this one says "Items sold separately" : 57 piece set

24 metric, 24 inch, doubles of 3" and 6" extensions, universal joint, and 3/8" adapter plus air impact, air ratchet, and gloves for $480...

But what's this? You can remove items from the deal...

Ok, remove ratchet... Remove impact... Remove gloves... And now we're down to $280...

Hmmm...

So for an extra $100 you get doubles of the extensions, u-joint, and adapter and lose the 10" extension...

"Special" price is good through 4/26/08...

What are the chances that the 48 piece set is going to suddenly be available again on Sunday again once the "special" is over...

You might try calling the catalog @ 1-800-377-7414 ; you may get lucky!

Sort of doubt it. Can't order the 48-piece set online (but can have them e-mail you when it comes in) and after throwing in a bunch of zipcodes it is listed as "out of stock" just about everywhere I try. We'll see what happens to it on Sunday. I'm guessing that suddenly it will be back in stock everywhere...

Have you called your local Sears? Or better yet take a drive with a printout of the page. If it is out of stock, ask them for a rain check at the online price.

I would try calling the catalog 1-800-377-7414 ; what do you have to lose? I could be wrong but its possible the catalog and online are two different stock types (I can't confirm this but I have my suspicions, based on customer feedback) Many times at the store we can't order something we also call the Sears Hotline at 1-877-248-9615; they may have a rebate for shipping and credit it back to your account (free shipping). I can't guarantee this but at times they have this promotion going. Give it a try; all they can say is "no"; hope this helps!

You aren't getting the point... The regular every day price of the one that is "out of stock" is cheaper than the one that is on sale...

I'm guessing once the "sale" is over, then the other one will "magically" be available again...

They're trying to push you to the more expensive "sale" by not giving you any other options...

Sears is simply not smart enough to do this on purpose. I think there is plenty of evidence to back that statement up.

I'm not seeing any sale prices... other than the gloves in the second set.

That's the other thing - the "package" is billed as a sale on the main page. But then you realize that the only thing on sale is that the gloves are half price.

I'm guessing that they are expecting a certain amount of people to buy it because it is supposedly on sale - without paying attention to the fact that they could get the components cheaper if bought differently.

I just checked and all items show "In Stock". On the 57 pc the impact is now on sale for $20 off. As far as the "Available for In Store pick up" that will vary from store to store. The 47 pc set is not stocked at my store and only a few of the individual pieces from the 57 pc set are in stock (mainly the gloves and the impact)

Yep, just got the e-mail this morning that the 48-piece set is back in stock - but shipped only, none of the local stores have it.

Guess that blows my "conspiracy theory"...

There will be a lot of sales coming up in the next few weeks along with discount cards on items. The George "W" rebate thing is spurring along a lot of retailers to give some pretty good incentives for you money.
