LOL....Me neither, I did see pics of some Cornwell tools on the interweb one time. So i think they do exist. S-K has a similar problem, poor distribution, they need to team up with a major retailer (other than Grainger, and a few mom and pop shops)

I think teaming up with a major retailer would be the first step towards outsourcing production. Retailers want low prices, not quality.

Usually when an investment house gets involved one of the following has happened.

There is a startup with a great idea that needs money to really fly.

When an established brand is purchased there it is usually due to the financial status of the company. The comments about how Apex in its current format came about makes me wonder since both of these companies are big in the tool market. Forming a company like this is usually done to make it more attractive to a buyer. The buyer then has to figure out how to bring it back to financial health.

It has been long been predicted without new regulations in the next few years jobs would return here. It is starting to happen and will continue if the brakes are not put on again. With a global market there is still major management and logistic efficiencies to be made. So it will be interesting to see where this goes.

But everytime I see an investement bank involved I wonder what the books of this company are like. If they stay like they are will they be broke or are they functionally already. Usually things go but most often less than if they stayed in the current hands.

Matco is like most of the other major tools companies, they do have some stuff made in China. Who knows what's in those boxes?

That's alright. I feel like I own an exclusive tool that not many mechanics have. :D

I take the grand kids out to sell at the swap meets. The lear business skills and how to deal with people. All the money they make goes in thier collage fund. The get 10% for spending money.

Eery time I get Cornwell tools I give them aways because I don't have any buyers for that brand. They are very hard to resell. I bougt out a box of the brand years ago and learned the hard way. I broke even. They are good tools but for me there is no resale value.

By the way Danahar owns Fluke

actually their ratcheting wrenches are taiwan. As stated could be anything in those boxes. Matco manfucatures under contract and rebrands a hell of lot of stuff. That could just as easily say "Snap-On" on it.

In my opinion, there should be a law that prevents the purchasers of a company from using the prior company's brand name.

I agree 100%. It makes me sick that Taylor brands uses the "Schrade" brand name to sell their junk import knives. Schrade knives was a big name in the knife industry and made a quality product. Sad, really sad!!
