Going to install vinyl siding on my rental and would like to use Brown and maybe a darker shade. Have installed siding before but wonder if the vinyl will sag in the hot summer heat. Anyone ever use darker colors in hot climates and have it work out?

We had a darker vinyl siding and it faded badly in the sun... so bad that the south side of the house looked to be a totally different color than the north side. Fortunately it was still under warranty and we received a partial (but not full) replacement cost.
...We went with steel siding the second time around.
So the moral of the story; if doing vinyl, stick with lighter colors or make sure that you have a very good warranty.

It will fade. It all does to some degree. I put light sand vinyl on garage and there’s some fading.

I did a Cedar Brown (Alcoa) on my house by the ocean in Maine. I had no problems with it and had a whole gable end replaced like 10 years past the original install after some dimwit took the power pole down at the road and ripped the service and most of the siding off my house. I was really worried about color fade when it came time for replacement there was no issues with matching color I was very pleased.
On the other hand I have Colonial Yellow (CertainTeed) on my Vermont house and the East/southeast side has certainly somewhat faded compared to the north and west sides.
I knew someone with a light blue (can't say for sure what the the brand was but thinking CertainTeed) some years ago had the entire house resided under warranty as it had faded terribly go figure

We put Alcoa dark brown siding on our old house. Very, if any fading or color change after 15 years. The siding was installed normally and didn't have the expansion/contraction that our new home has with clay color. The Alcoa siding was thicker and heavier than most.
Earlier Alcoa siding did have severe fade issues that they warrantied on other homes in our area that were installed 5 years earlier.
I don't have any recent information on new stuff available tho.
It appears that Alcoa now goes under the name Mastic

Did not look at it till just now. Says it must be repainted every 3-10 years, so that alone would toss it out of the mix. Did look at Hardy Board but not wanting it either because of possibility of repaint some day, but does last longer and does not mention "needing" to be repainted.
The cheapest would be just to repaint the wood siding on it now, but I like maintenance free as much as possibly

Check with the siding manufacturer for specifications on expansion and fading warranty. Then follow their directions during the installation.
There was a recent story in one of the home improvement magazines or fine home building that discussed the popularity of darker color siding and helpful tips on installation.
I can't seem to find the story now. Maybe someone here can find it.
