Happened to be using this old angle finder thing (what is it called anyway?) that was in my machinist toolbox i got a few years ago and noticed it said Darling, Brown and Sharpe. Never saw the Darling on a B+S tool before.
After some research, it seems like Darling was a partner from 1862 to 1897. Is this thing really that old ? If so, it would now be the oldest tool I own .

Darling was a partner of B&S for a while- he build a graduating machine they wanted, I think. Both Darling and B&S made very good scales, I like the DBS one in my box and use it daily.
You should keep it, it's too beat to be a collectors item but it should last you til about 2160 if you take care of it.

There are some Darling stamped tools out there that are in the thousand dollar range. I watched one on e-bay a few years back and it went 4 figures. I asked on one of the machinist boards and a member was one of the bidders. He explained the value.
