Here is a quick pic of my finished 3/4" socket racks modeled after the Hansen's. I spray painted them and then applied vinyl labels for the sizes. Just need to finish buying my SAE set now, lol

Filling up those empty spots on your socket organizers is so OCD, isn't it??? Just drives me nuts. Oh wait, I was already nuts. :eyecrazy:
Just when we thought we all had enough projects... those Hansen trays SEEMED like a good idea at the time... :lol_hitti

I had yet to started on organizers for my impact sockets. (probably because I already know I have gaps in the impact sets)

Why are the Hansens labled right to left, that's a deal breaker for me.

The 1/4" drive 5/8 deep was the last socket acquired. Very hard to locate, ended up that Graingers ordered it from the manufacturer, it took weeks!

Did I need it? No I didn't NEED it at all, I have a 1/2" drive 5/8" deep six point impact, a 3/8" drive 5/8 deep six point and a 3/8" drive 5/8" deep 12 point.........but now the tray is complete! :beer:

It's a good thing.......

Can you post up what brands you receive when you get them? read on here it varies, but usually always good quality. I'm just curious as i'll be ordering of few of the ones i need from mcmaster soon.

I went ahead and ordered that socket and two other sockets I needed, The other two I bought are PROTO.

This should complete my set.

they are a mix of Armstrong and proto.

I was perfectly happy with a partial 3/8 Cman socket set . . .

Now I am working on 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 SAE and Metric plus reasonable selection of impacts. Oh, and thanks to this site I now have "daily/go-to" and "nicer" (didn't know sockets could be "graded" before this site damn you all to hell) sets, PLUS my growing collection of vintage CMan from the 30s and 40s.

Don't get me started on my ratcheting wrenches and Wera screwdrivers . . .that again I didn't know I needed until I came here.

thats a nice collection. I was going to buy a Hansen set for my impacts but i knew I would be missing some to I just lay them down.

There is a company in Plymoth Michigan that sells the 6 piece hansen sets on E bay for $60 shipped.

This thread is a hoot.

I have all my Snap-on socket in the magnetic holders except my sets are so large that they don't all fit.

I have all my S-K socket in the Hansen holder and all the Craftsman in one of the carry plastic cases to take with me. I have other back up set.

My problem is that no one makes a holder for all the 32 od sockets I have all those in Craftsman and other brands. I even have the 32od's in deep and shallow. Whre to put that 25/32 or 15/32 socket drove me nuts for years.

I have a complete metal and wood shop so I made my own holders. For all my large sockets I took a 9 ply piece of plywood and layed it out and drilled holes in it and cut wood dowls to fit. That took care of all my SAE and Metic Deep sockets. I made the boards to fit the size of the drawer. It works great. I sheered sheet metal and broke it up and made holders for my 3/4" sockets. Then for my Craftsman set that has all the 32od sockets I did the same. My home made ones work well. I spray pained the wood with enamel paint and it looks good. I hate a missing anything. I might be worse than anyone when it comes to missing tools. Drive me crazy.

What is it to have full set and all the same brand. I got over it because I found all brands very cheap in different places. I have to say it is funny how we get attached to our tools.

Hi there

I purchased a Craftsman Socket set and went with the Socketmat to store my sockets. It's not labelled but I have also lazer etched sockets I am putting on it and it works great as I can organize it how I want and I am not limited to someone elses layout. When I open the drawer, there is lots of space to see in between the sockets and it is easy to use.

Somewhat off topic, but has anyone seen these (or anything for that matter) for 3/4 drive? I got the 9 piece set from the Sears clearance, but can't find a tray of any sort to put them on. I have the rails for all my other sockets right now, but haven't had any luck finding a 3/4 drive organizer.

Mine came in a metal box. I opened it up in my toolbox and put the ratchet on the other side.

I haven't seen anything commercial for 3/4 but I'm not in the business either. I think someone made one a while back and posted it. I don't remember if it was made out of metal or wood but I want to say wood. They drilled 3/4" diameter holes and labelled it like the Hansen holders. The advantage of making your own is that it's only as big as you need it and you don't have to go find those odd sizes that would fill the holes (or look at the empty spots).

I picked up a partial set of 1" drive stuff a while back like that (free). Some of those are just MONSTERS. There's even a 1" drive universal wiggle tail.

I guess that I should make a rack for them.
