Dasco Pro Tools-USA at Wal Mart

Did a quick walk down the Wal Mart tool aisle. Saw three tools, a set of mini pry bars, a small nail pull pry bar and set of punches. The blue color caught my attention and the products had a "Made in the USA" label.

No prices, so I took the mini pry bar set to the price machine and around $7.70. Liked the bars, the blue color for visibility (easy to find) and noticed they were sharp, almost knife like. According there web site, "They have sharp edges for prying, pulling and scraping."

Saw a TV ad where Wal Mart claimed they were gonna sell more , Made in USA products.

First time I've become aware of Dasco.

The prices are very reasonable on the Dasco items at Wal-Mart.

The punch set is like $12.

They're a pretty common brand. See them at home depot. The steel is really soft, the punches and chisels aren't much better than mild steel. About the same as anything Chinese that you'd normally expect to see in those stores though I suppose.

At least they're making it here in the US though. That's got to be a step if the right direction.

Yep, they're junk. I found a Dasco Pro chisel in a parking lot. The first time I used it, I tossed it in the recycling container.

I've seen Dasco punches curl up like wishbones, some of the worst quality steel you can buy, on par with Chinese made.

You know I've heard so much bad stuff about the Dasco punch sets and how soft they are but I've had mine for years and never had any problems. I dunno seem fine to me and a great price too!

That is exactly what happened to the Astro punches I bought.

Mine too. I only broke one punch (smallest in the set) by abusing it. I primarily use mine on firearms, but I cant say they are any better or worse than my Proto or Craftsman sets.

The problem with all cheap punches and chisels is inconsistent heat treating. You may get some good ones now and then, but they're still a cut below the real deal. Enderes is about as good as it gets for short money, and they cost more than Dasco, Craftsman, Stanley and similar junk brands.
